dont know if this one is on the list or not and dont know if it can be done within the current FF version or not, but i recently had a need for a blur that would blur on a gradient basis, either working from the outside with a heavier blur and descending inwards to a lesser blur. and vice versa, going from in = heavy to out = light.

if anyone knows how to do this within the current FF scheme, please, let me know.

Ability to control blur radius per-sample was discussed internally, and was rejected since it almost assuredly will be an extremely slow component (slower than anything included yet) smile:)
On the other hand it might be _very_ useful, opening a lot of possibilities, so I'd ask Vlad directly for it.

thanks, onyx smile:)

even if it worked by combining two components, a blur and a gradient... ? hmmm, maybe there's a snippet already. i'll have a look.

Gradient itself doesn't matter much, the problem is that current blur-based components have fixed radius for the entire component. While you can try to fake the effect if radius variation isn't high, by blending several blurs, you won't get the exact effect of varying blur radius. If radius variation along the image gets higher, the effect is lost completely.

no, i understand you cant fake the blur by several blurs. that would look ugly or be so cumbersome in the code as to make it unusable. but maybe applying a gradient TO the blur? like, you do your blur the normal way but then pass it through a gradient, like with a bump map gradient only applied to the blurring? i dont know that any of that is possible except in my head, but it would be a nice component(s) to have.
