What I would like to see.
1) A search menu in FF so I can search my own filters. 2)A way to create new folders that I want in FF, this would be useful because then I could make different folders for different projects I am working on. Now I doubt this will ever happen but I think StevieJ might like it. A place on FF to put our own personal Filters but they can't be downloaded unless someone pays FF and us a small gratuity. Reason being, I could organize my files better, make money, and FF would be able to show off the power of filter forge, because lets face it filter quality has been dropping as of late. There are still some gems now and then, but 2 years ago it felt like every week 2-3 filters were EP. True they were all Crapadilla's but still... |

True. Apparently there's a reward-point-farming script or something out there now that randomly slaps together components and auto-submits to the queue for that extra-generic experimental filter flood! ![]() All kidding aside, I've had a feeling for a long time now that this "drop" in quality might be due to the fact that FF's current toolset just isn't very accessible to casual graphic and texture artists. I mean - let's face it - some things in FF are downright arcane. Where's the convenient Rotate component? Where's the Scale component? People probably open up the editor and go "WTF? I can't even rotate and scale this thing into place? How am I supposed to create more complex textures with this anyway? Gah, crap! Where's my Genetica trial!". The learning curve is damn steep and many things need to be researched on the forums or inside snippets. This takes a lot of patience and dedication, and I'd bet we're losing lots of talented texture and effect artists due to these hurdles. Add to this the simple fact that constructing quality filters is a VERY time-consuming process that requires a lot of sweat, dedication and copious amounts of Polish! Now stir gently, and then - again - ask yourself why we mostly get random LSD trips dumped into the library. My rusty 2 cents! ![]() ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

here's what i see on the quality issue. a person buys, steals, obtains a copy of FF or are just using the trial. if they havent bought it, then they're going to want to get a free copy (assuming they get past the learning curve and other newbie obstacles), so they start making and submitting filters. about the quickest you can earn the free copy from three HU's is roughly, 90 days, due to the built in delays of sampling and reporting to get an HU. so, for 90 days or more, a new person is working towards getting those 3 HU's. they eventually figure out that it takes quality to get an HU. so, they start learning to make quality filters and perhaps do so. they get their first HU and voila, they're hooked
![]() so, to me, it all boils down to you get what you reward, with the correlary of you dont get what you penalize. and that brings us back to the eula, which i dont really need to reiterate on again. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

I just spilled out an essay here, but I accidently X'd out the tab and lost it all.
![]() But I was ranting before, so hopefully this summary will be a better alternative.
That's why I created a thread in the forums for my filter creations instead of submitting them. Why give away for free what others would pay for (especially things like filters which we spend mucho time on)? And if you guys are being starved by the lack of new, cool filters to play with and take apart, why not share with each other exclusively? For example, I'd be willing to E-mail some of my un-submitted filters to you guys if you asked. ![]() |

Exactly. No hand-signed cushions from Bella, ergo no more filters from Crapadilla! ![]() ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

hehe, indigo, you must have read my mind about the exclusive sharing bit. i was just thinking today, before i came into the forums, that i might offer one or two people a tit for tat exchange. i've sent steve and i think CF&M filters before and have had some sent to me, as well. but, i still think someone, whether it's FF or a third party, shld step up and make an author's website, something along the lines of steve's storefront idea. yeah, i know, why dont i do it? lol. uhm, i just remembered, i left the stove on and have to go check it...
you might want to contact fred (sign guy). he's got the best deals going right now for filter authors. you may not make a million, but you might make more than you're making now off your filters ![]() and yes, i've gotten into the mind set lately of, why shld i give this all away for free? i still do, occaisionally, but not like i used to. but, anyways, it's still fun to create them ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
