Some feature wishlists ideas for more cpu power harnessing...
Use NVIDIA GPU for rendering calcs...it is 'graphical rendering' after all. Use locally networked computers (include a network-only client -- and also have one for linux...my computer's "other half" is a linux computer of similar specs -- it handles security & data. Windows handles desktop, execution (programs, games), joined with a too slow 1Gbit connection (don't get anywhere near line speeds w/windows network stack, even with an intel network card to offload the low end stuff). Tres sad. But the nivida rendering makes alot of sense for larger renders. ?? |

GPU rendering has been discussed before...

After some research and prototyping we decided to skip the nVidia architecture (mostly because the existing FF code doesn't lend itself well to such ports), but a naive Larrabee port seemed perfectly plausible. Now that Larrabee is canceled by Intel, we don't have any GPU plans at least for 2010.
However, I think that the direction where Intel was going with Larrabee is the right direction, and I'm sure that we'll see processors using similar approach, be it from Intel or not. |
