This is probably a low, low priority one but… I was messing around with Vlad's Wave Blur filter and saved my own version. Since it was derived from a copy of another filter (as noted in the Edit dialog), I think it would be cool if it cited the original in the "About" section. But maybe that's just me… smile:)

Most people just put some credit in the text of the filter description: 'Based off of X' or 'Props to Y for their help with this part' etc. It's just good manners.

As CorvusCroax said you can place this yourself in with the info..Besides its always more personal putting it in yourself rather then having some automatic type of process...

i've suggested something similar in the past. i've noticed when modding other folk's filters that when i save for the first time it automatically credits me as the author, but i think it would be nice to have something that showed the history of authors involved that was automatic. i almost always remember to put some kind of note in my modded ones, but sometimes i forget to. so, it wouldnt bother me if there was some kind of tag somewhere that kept the history of authors intact and couldnt easily be edited out.

also, as another point on this, i sometimes remember to put 'rev 1' in the modded filter's name, but forget to put by whom and i find sometimes that i wish i knew who the original author was/is.

and, as a last point on this, since i dont always submit my filters, i dont then always write out a description and therefore i havent written down the original author's name. i may have the 'rev 1' in the title, but i may well have forgotten who. now, i have taken to including a 'by so-and-so' along with the 'rev 1', but this is only a fairly recent addition of mine when i mod something. this does then allow me to track down the original author if necessary.

Agreed, Craig. I would like it to be more of an automatic thing, though I agree it could be preferential for those who don't want it on.

Hmm, you could even implement a sort of pyramid scheme for author credits and HU's!

I'd love for the community to feel encouraged to submit derivations from others filters. I've done a few myself and always am nervous the original posters will be upset, having a system like this might bring about a lot of revamped filters from extinct authors and improve the library a bunch.

Some sort of credit system for derived filters would be nice, I have *tons* of filters sitting in 'My Filters' where I had an Idea to do something with someone else's filters. Usually I go ahead and ask the Author whether I may then post these, but some official way to give them their share of the credits would be useful.

Cats have never forgotten this.
And rightly so.

KG, i agree in principle. it's the implementation that gets tricky at times. i've done mods and submitted them and had no trouble with the other author or with FF, inc. but, we've also seen copy cat clones done with only a tiny tweak or barely even that and had them removed from the library from those looking to take advantage of someone else's good work. so, one always has to be careful on these. i do agree in spirit that mods are a good thing and i also think the derivative tag would help eliminate spurious clones. authors would know that their mods are already tagged and would be less prone to submit rip-off clones, knowing that tag is there.
