Filter Forge - Wishlist: Categories for "Bomber Parts", "Objects"

I think it would help the FF community if we added a couple more filter subcategories:

1) Texture Filter: "Bomber Parts":
I think we're going to wind up with a lot of little 'make a bolt' or make a 'Phillips Screw Head' and 'tufts of hair' snippets, mainly for use as parts used in bomber nodes. IMHO, we should have a subcategory for that sort of thing. (Maybe there is a better name for it.)

2) Texture Filter: "Objects"
The biggest category of filters is 'Misc', currently at 1056 filters. If you look at that category, many of those things are representative of 'objects': speakers, pills, chains, assorted food (!), etc. I think it would make things more find-able if we had a category for them. (Better than Misc in any case)

A sound suggestion. Will you be eager to undertake the task of sorting all the 1056 filters by their IDs into 'objects' and 'not objects'? smile:D

Seriously, this requires a certain amount of monotonous work. We'll probably do this... some time later.

User-definable tags solve all your problems. Favourites? done! Extra categories? Done! Cross-linked categories? Done! Someone says "Hey we should totally use Object tags more."? Community starts using it, and done!

Sure: I don't think it would be that hard actually. (only about 1 out of 9 or 10 are 'objects', depending on the criteria one uses.) So, there is probably only around 100.

Can I just list them here, by their filter number?

OK, so I've torn through the Effects Filters:Misc and Texture Filters: Misc

My criteria are:
'anything which is representative of a real world object'
'you can hold it in your two hands'
'includes cloth and fabrics'

This would include furniture, food. It would include 'writing on paper' but not just 'writing' or other symbols. (I could see it including symbols, though)

There are a surprising number of Effects filters which are objects.

Also: I noticed that a bunch of stuff in 'Misc' is probably miscategorized. (all the eyes for example should be under 'organic', there are lots of 'building' things) I think it would be handy for the Filter page for each filter to have a 'report miscategorization' box under it. What I'm picturing is just a button with a popup where people could click to say 'this is miscategorized', and then pick a.

When a certain # of reports are rec'd, or the FF staff get bored smile;)

they could make a judgement about whether or not to assign it to a that category, based on those suggestions.

btw Totte:
I noticed that, oddly, a lot of your stuff is hidden away under Effects: Misc. I would never think to look for tables and dungeon furniture there!

Corvus: One problem is that if you make a filter (like my tavern furniture stuff) that you want to render on a transparent background, not on top of the LS, you attach the image-component to a switch and ignore it (only passing the real surfsce through it. But that prevents you from ending up in the first category group, among building etc etc.

Yep, I run into the same thing all the time. smile:hammer:

(and the Effects:Misc category shows it...)

I guess we'd need an 'Objects' category for both Effects and Texture filter types. (Barring some better FF way to create images w/ transparent backgrounds.) smile:?:
