I'm trying to make a filter that lets you either get an alpha channel from the image transparency or from the selection, but the yellow message, "This Filter Requires a Selection" appears when you plug a Selection node into a Switch node that is connected to your result.
This means even if my filter result doesn't require a selection I still get the error message appearing. It happens both in FF 3 and 2. I thought this might be a bug, but if it's a feature request please send it over to the right place ![]() |

Uhm... It seems pretty straightforward to me: if you use a Selection component, than this filter is meant to be used with a selection. Moreover, it's not an error message but a notification to users.

Now I see: you want components that are routed through an inactive branch of Switch to be disabled completely.
Well, I'll move this to the Feature Wishlist forum. |

I want that this message will be moved to other place.
It is very obstructive that being shown at the center of the image. ![]() |

As it was requested in this topic some years ago, and even before ( example : Image/Selection switching ), it would be useful if the message "This Filter Requires a Selection" was moved on a corner instead of being in the center of the image.
And, as Mike Blackney showed, if Selection is connected to a switch, our choice may not be the Selection component, so that message is not true. |
