The ability to use a filter as a component would mean manageability, for example a drop shadow or emboss filter is used everywhere, and copying/pasting all those nodes for that simple operation makes for really messy graphs. Being able to use a filter AS a component within other filter graphs would be a welcome addition.

I guess this could be done also with groups. If you could have a bunch of components grouped together, and then "collapse" the group it would be helpful.
Plus, that way you are not dependent on the user having the needed filters in order to use yours.

Morgantao you could have the option to embed them when publishing, so they get "flattened" into the graph.

true, but I still think it's important to be able to edit them even in the "flattened mode". Imagine if you had a component in the editor (let's say perlin noise) you can't touch, or can't edit it's settings... That could be a problem.
In that case the whole embeded filter should be "grouped" rather than "flattened", so if you choose to make some corrections to the filter component you could open it up (zoom into it?) and mess around with it.

For now, what I can suggest is you use the unlimited filter editor space. Take the filter you want to embed, and put it somewhere far, far away from YOUR components. That way when you work on your filter, you can zoom in only on what you are working on. Not the best solution, but it works smile:)
