knowing there are thousands of available filters, it would be great (for a new user similar to me) to be able to download ALL the possible available filters to FF in one or serveral Zip-install files. This would save hundreds of hours previewing and downloading individual files, as I am doing now. Let me just download THE LOT in one go. Then I can pregressively delete what i don't require. All the avialable filters could be dowbloaded as yearly groups if file size is an issue. I'm quite confident this can be done. Cheers.

Click on Tools > Options...
Now go to the Online tab and set the download more filters to the "Use built in library browser (Obsolete), and hit OK.
Then click on Download more filters button, and see all the filters in all the categories.
Just press Ctrl+A (Command+A on mac) to select all filters in any category and click the Add to downloads button.
Note that downloading all the filters at once may take some time, so do it before you go to bed smile:)

Fabulous, that's terrific. Cheers. Can this be done via "date" as well (each month for the recently added)? I'm just in front of FF at the moment.

Here is something that could help you perhaps

Advantages and Disadvantages of using the OL and OLIFF Filters Library

In the filter browser you CAN´T sort or organize the filters, they are organized by date of submission, and you can hide the ones you have downloaded before but nothing more, there are no more options.

Yep, as SpaceRay said, there's no sorting the filters in the built in browser. It will only show you filters you don't have on your machine. That means that every day you can use it to see all the new filters, but once you delete some of the filters from your computer, they will reappear in the browser.

The thing is, once you download all the 8700+ filters the first time, you can easily just go to the filters library online, and sort by RECENT filters. That way you can once a day\week\month\ look at only the new filters and decide if you want them or not.
There's an avarage of like 15 filters a week I suppose, so it's not hard to keep track of them.

In short, use the built in browser to download EVERYTHING once, then use the regular online library to download only the new filters.

i have found that if you have a somewhat slow connection, like under 1 megabit, that you'll sometimes lose your download connection using the 'obsolete' method (which is all i use).

there is a solution, however. i use windows seven and i have a lot of the win7 gadgets on my desktop. one of them is a Network Monitor. this is a very handy little app. i get a visual display of uploads and downloads as they are happening.

i noticed a while back that if i clicked on a very large number of files to download, that as soon i simply included a group into the list to download, but hadnt even started the download yet, the network monitor would start showing traffic. that seemed a bit odd, but it happened every time. so, apparently, something was being downloaded before i even clicked on the 'download now'. ok, maybe it's the thumbnails or something. i dont know.

but, what i found was, if i didnt let that 'pre-download' finish before clicking on the download now button, i would get maybe one complete filter downloaded out of the entire group i had selected to download. when i let that pre-download finish and then clicked on download now, ALL of my selected filters for download would go ahead and download like they are supposed to.

all i can guess on this is that whatever is pre-downloading, if you click on download now and you've got a somewhat slow connection, that first pre-download finishes up but some trigger on the full grouping of downloads doesnt get triggered and you only get one flter downloaded of all your selected filters.

i probably have my understanding of what's going on here completely messed up, but i do know that if i dont wait for that pre-download to complete, i will, every single time, get only one filter downloaded of all the ones i have currently selected.
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
