Morgantao, please do a Google search on copyright laws. You will find they are real laws and they are taken very seriously. Changing someones original design whether slightly or not and claiming it as your own is a serious offense. I know this because I have shut down several thieves on Ebay ...

... guys need and want in art and such and i have a question. what do you consider 'recognizable private property'? i understand about model releases and i also understand the trademark thing, but i dont recall running into a private property thing in the copyright laws before. is this pretty much the same idea as the model release, that you cant profit commercially off images of someone else's property without a release? that seems a bit odd. so again, the question of 'recognizable' comes into question....

Enrique -- I was talking about filters, but I believe the same can be applied to images, they also are your creation and therefore copyrighted work. However, when you upload a filter to the Filter Library, you give other users the right to use your filter to create their own images, which therefore will be their copyright, not yours.

I agree and that is precisely what that EULA achieves, it gives independence and full copyright to filter authors. Filter authors who, I should add, would still be free to conduct affairs with any texture sellers under Section : 4.3. Exceptions. The only difference being that the public would know that the author gave consent and authority ...

also, amethyst, in the case of you making your own filters in FF for use in your models, if you dont submit them to the FF library, there is no user eula covering you. in fact, if you dont submit them to the library they are covered under normal copyright law and are yours and yours alone to do with as you wish and if anyone rips them off, providing you followed proscribed copyright law, you can sue them!

Craig, you raise a good point.....where do you draw the line.....
Personally, my argument stops at reselling texture preset images as-is.....and any "significantly altering" creative input/filter modifications after that is beyond copyright protection..... So the question is.....what constitutes enough of a change to be beyond copyright protection???
The crazy part of all this is that these "resellers" can't be bothered with having to put one ounce of creative input ...

I'm suggesting the implementation of a middleground EULA restriction/copyright protection "just" on the reselling of straight texture results without any modification/creative input, permission, or compensation to the author.....and have absolutely no restrictions on the selling of things with "applied" ...

No, they wouldn't waste a dime on it.....which is another good reason for FF to "sure up" author's copyrights.....so the author would have the responsibility of protecting it......

Ok so I was recently browsing through the FF library, and happened upon this:

And also I do not know if it would be good to show them here because even I have them without the watermark I do not own the copyright so is still his images, so if I put them here without the watermark would not be good either.
So I think that the best is not use or show any kind of copyrighted images in the forum either with or without watermark to solve this

There is a passage that Vladimir quoted earlier in this thread that says that the filter maker retains the copyright to the filter they submitted. I'm not sure where it is inside the current EULA fine print.
If it ever ended up in court, I wouldn't find it inconcievable if they rule that presets and their 'look', or the image generated from a preset is ...
