This is either an alien pig or a four legged vampire. I did pottery for a long time and I still try to give my sculpts a nice glaze. That is why I use all those texture making filters, but you guys already get that. I added a little of my Emboss Impressionism filter on Ghislaine's Cosmic clousd for the background and we all know where the frame came from ......

... really just trying to get you to design your watermarks. You don't have to follow my advice on what designs they should appear like. At least the colors work in your favor for these. I think it's fair to say that you've done part of your job. But to me, emboss, stroke, drop shadow appear "default" in my eye. In the industry, I just see it as a "slap on job". It's not representing you in the positive light in terms of design.
Give it more experimentation and some time. I'd say there ...

I know what you mean though because I made Gold Weave (named for when applied on a solid white background)- best applied on Moon Cheese. :D And then made the 'metallic emboss' one ... and after that I purposfully went off the metallic filters because I didn't want to get labled 'a metal head'. hehehehahaha Love the metals though.

... lower left preset, 1st filter on the 3rd row for the default set. The rust is a rust texture I found on the net and I use the same one over and over to maintain consistent look, I just try to change the size and shape a bit. I lay the rust on after I emboss the entire thing up by about 10. Takes me a good 5-10 minutes to whip up an icon but it looks like you cooked all day :D

Photoshop "Outer Glow" Technique: Soft?
... "Softer" or "Precise" distance transform. Inner Shadow is the "Softer" distance transform. I did all my tests using difference calculations on channels and they are exactly the same.
My intuition tells me that the Bevel and Emboss style uses the "Softer" distance transform for calculating the height map in "Smooth" mode, and the "Precise" distance transform for the two "Chisel" options.

... have 20 or 30 hours of life to spare to create award winning filters. To me, filter making is imagination and as much art as the artwork I try to produce. I'm really sorry it did not work for your image. There are several filters in the library that emboss images that you might want to try.

I created two filters that would be useful to me and found that the interface to Affinity has some issues.
Lessons so far......
1. The item that you give to FF has to be rasterised - you cannot keep it 'editable' although its layer effects like embossing can be kept.
2. Many filters (most?) in FF just return a rectangle to *replace* the item you give it.
If you make two copies of the item, you can give the copy to FF and drag the result inside the original (Paste Inside as other software would ...
