  • Upcoming EULA changes, round 3
... inordinate amount of time on a filter unless it's something that I need for my own work.....and I don't submit anything but snippets from those..... ;) :) So, in conclusion :D .....I think the combination of this new EULA (giving authors tangible copyrights) and my "storefront" reward level idea (giving authors a place to sell their copyrights) would provide the most beneficial "symbiotic" relationship for Filter Forge and its' authors.....

  • Plagiarism (Copyright)
Author: Wang Yu. My FF 9 and FF11 licenses and (FF 11 Librarian) licenses that I have purchased and own are being used by someone else without my permission. How can I block it? Can license keys be stopped from working?

  • PIKAZO again
Author: SpaceRay. Good news for all the ones that does not have an iPad or iPhone, maybe there could be a possible desktop computer version, or another company could do it using the same algorithm that is not copyrighted

  • Suggest a new filter.
Author: Skybase. Well you got me started with the Diamond Square Algorithm. It sounds doable with the lua scripting and there are some copyrighted examples floating on the web. Although not sure if it'll be just plug-n-play. I guess I should wait about that.

  • Proposed changes in copyright law
Author: StevieJ. Holy crap!!! That's definitely bad news.....required to pay for registration of copyrights that expire.....give me a break.....no one will post any of their creative works on the web.....and FF would surely suffer!!!

  • "All your filter are belong to someone else!"
Author: StevieJ. "StevieJ wrote: AUTHORS HOLD THE COPYRIGHTS TO THE PRESET IMAGES OF THEIR FILTERS AND NO ONE ELSE CAN SELL THEM AS THEIR OWN WITHOUT ANY CREATIVE INPUT TO THEM UNLESS THEY HAVE AGREEMENT, PERMISSION, OR CONSENT FROM THE AUTHOR " That's what I believe is basically "stated, ...

  • Learning This Plug in
Author: Crapadilla. "roseenglish1 wrote: Lastly..how exactly do the filters work regards to copyright? " There was a discussion about this topic here (http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=977&MID=5333&phrase_id=28869#message5333).

  • Output texture use legalities? - Follow up addendum.
Author: Djekki. Bill, I think my previous answer can work for these additional questions as well. All the renders you make in Filter Forge is your intellectual property. Filter authors hold the copyright to the filter files proper (.ffxml files).

  • Be able to import AND EMBED images inside the filter and submit to FF
Author: GMM. CFandM is right: Filter Forge won't have an easy way to embed images due to copyright reasons. But there is a workaround (http://www.filterforge.com/filters/8796.html) for those who know what they're doing.

  • Chuck Close V2 by Indigo Ray
Author: Indigo Ray. Correct me if I'm wrong, but names cannot be copyrighted. Also, this filter doesn't use any of Mr. Close's artwork like yours did. I hope he is not offended by this as I was only inspired by his art. :)

  • Copyright Question...Sorry if this is redundant.
Author: jffe. The preset images are "owned" by the filter creator, as they qualify as individual "works of art" technically/legally, and are only for example purposes. Other than that, there are no copyright restrictions for commercial use of the filters that I am aware of. jffe

  • Upcoming EULA changes, round two
... results, don't we? Where the problem lies is in this much more recent phenomenon that FilterForge has created. That is, to be able to produce texture effects that are so damn good that various guys on the Net are simply pressing one button, claiming copyright on the preset and selling the result. The result being a totally unaltered texture, that was actually created by the filter writer themselves. The filter authors feel that they are being taken advantage of, especially on the copyright side, ...

  • "All your filter are belong to someone else!"
... delusion that I have any control over how they are used. It is pretty clear here that what we are submitting to the library are "filters" filters that are used by artists in ANY way they want for whatever kind of work they require. The only copyright on the filters I submit is that no one will open it up and duplicate the workings of the filter and sell it as their own "filter". There is no copyright on the presets or any renders that come out of the presets or any variation created ...

  • Use Of Filters?
Author: Vladimir Golovin. Regarding the filters you create -- since you are the copyright holder (we don't claim ownership in filters or images you create in Filter Forge) you can use the filters you create for commercial or non-commercial purposes just as you would use an image created in Photoshop or a photo you create using a ...

  • Renderosity MarketPlace & FF library textures?
... couple of questions please. I think FF is fantastic and I use it a lot, I have even started to mod filters and have modded one and submitted it (you'll see it if it gets accepted more to come as well!) Comment: I wasn't aware that there was a copyright EULA discussion / chat / rant etc. until my friend asked if he should also purchase FF and this topic within the forums is what ultimately put him off. one of the main reasons I truly enjoy FF IS the community and the filters I can download ...

  • Upcoming EULA changes, round 3
... European customers I would imagine. So to really remain "popular" in a way, they would want to go with the most lenient laws, and do the least to hassle paying customers. On the other hand, then people in the U.S. who are used to VERY restrictive copyright and usage laws, are going to shy away more, knowing they won't be as protected in other countries. It's really a no-win situation, and even if FF had a full-time lawyer on and to try and shut down each thief on renderosity or wherever, that ...

  • FF StevieJs' Way
... The problem that I see with authors either on their own or uniting to sell texture packs would be that authors would withhold all of their quality texture filters from FF.....thus protecting their sales and hurting FF. This is where the EULA texture copyright restiction would come into play if FF united author storefronts here. Authors could sell their texture packs and have continued incentives (under copyright protection) to submit their texture filters to FF for continuous storefront rewards....

  • Light version of FF and comercial FF filters
... end user. Filter Forge does not intend to claim any interest in such result, in essence in the same way as a toolmaker would not claim interest in a product that was created by his tools or a producer of a photo camera or photo lense would not own a copyright in the picture taken by a professional photographer. Furthermore, this statement in no way should be construed as waiving any of the copyrights or other rights of the company or as an inducement to violate third party's rights."

  • Sequins & Dazzled Fabrics
Author: xirja. Need to work on the edges on the input image/mask for custom shapes, and as it stands the thread is slightly re-colored like the particles, but more or less this is on target. Plus Parametric Depth Sorting! Copyright, trademark, patent, kill! Damn friggatriskaidekaphobia!

  • Violation of my rights
Author: Ghislaine. "Also, I would definitely suggest you contact the administrators of the site and let them know that Piotr is passing off other's copyrighted work as his own. " That is what i did already 3 weeks ago but my email stills without reply.
