  • simple smooth marble by Benna
Author: Benna. Thanks guys! Sounds like fun. :D What does the copyright afford the author in this case? Other people's filters are free to use, you just can't rename it and claim it or are the results of filters somehow linked to the author as well?

  • Upcoming EULA changes, round 3
Author: Kraellin. "Conniekat8 wrote: I already told you I didn't use the wiki page to learn from. I posted the link to it because I know there's a lot of things that coincide with copyright laws that I have to be aware of on daily basis." ah, ok.

  • Claiming "created by"
... that might not apply as much) would be things I spent a lot of time and effort on. Here's the fundamental difference. If I wasn't going to be OK with people using the work I created, I would include some sort of protection, my Novel I might have a copyright, my game I might include DRM, my homework- I wouldn't share it. With filterforge, I weighed the pros/cons of sharing [and having my work possibly misused (in a moral sense)] and decided that the usage stats and general charity won out. ...

... which compensation is being received. There is no restriction that says selling a rendering of a preset or a modified preset is any different than producing thingamabobs using Smiths unmodified process is prohibited. Yes, the filter artist owns the copyright to the filter design, but that copyright creates no obligation on the part of an individual who uses the program and the process to create the rendering under a separate license. The right to do that is what the licensee has a right to expect ...

  • Violation of my rights
Author: CFandM. Well there is a post made by jffe in one of those "copyrights" threads about posting in a guerrilla fashion....Just render some of the results from your filter (the same filter) and post them on that site but with links back to your filter and FF..;) :)

  • Copyright Infringement?
Author: Brainiac. I want to use this filter to make the background of my personal blog (noncommercial) about comics http://www.filterforge.com/filters/4531.html is this possible? and unchanged? no Copyright Infringement? Carl I think you're the author! xDDDD very amazing!

  • Carl's Corner :)
Author: Beliria. "Carl wrote: Does Linden do anything about copyright infringements if pointed out? " Yes http://secondlife.com/corporate/dmca.php "Carl wrote: LMAO I had a feeing I shouldn't have started that" hehe My bad, just couldn't resist it ;) :D

  • Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Pink Sliders...
Author: Crapadilla. "StevieJ wrote: LOL..... I think you should submit it!!!" Can't. That would be copyright infringement! But please, do feel free! ;) "ahimsa wrote: It's ok, you're male and males are....well....you know...male." Circles, circles, circles... I'm getting dizzy! ;) :D

  • StevieJ's Chrome by StevieJ
Author: Kraellin. ah! so, it's 'how bout this one?'. ok, got it. i think the reason they went the way they did on the freepack is to completely avoid any copyright and hurt feeling hassles, if that helps. all the filters in the freepack were vlad's and kochubey's.

  • Reflective Frames by Persidio
Author: Presidio. An update will take effect on or around May 14th, 2007. Sample images are filtered with the updated release. The photo of the Mallard is copyright Dawn Reber and used with permission. First the photo by itself for comparision. Click each image to view the larger version.

  • Light version of FF and comercial FF filters
Author: CFandM. "Persidio wrote: ike I said I represent a silent majority who are not going to say a word. I was part of the Copyright Hoopla on the web in it's day-" Which time would that be if you don't mind my asking. Just curious to read about it...

... by Using the Product. You hereby agree that the Licensor may, solely and at its own discretion, request that you cease any distribution of images that it may deem not in compliance with this section and such unauthorized distribution constitutes a copyright infringement. • LAB#3015 Skybase
... change the course of the forum post. The thing is, in the end it's just what it is. To me those people are just really small and kinda not worth going after. You said how you emailed and got an angry response back. I've done similarly but with my copyrighted work. You usually get people being defensive, something along the lines of angry and afraid. That "how dare you!" type of reaction is common. But beyond the line it's really just about the law. Who made what basically. And the law ...

  • Upcoming EULA changes, round 3
Author: Kraellin. i'm probably wrong about everything made with a filter being the copyright of the original filter author, btw. vlad has it right, i think. it has to be tangible before an author can claim it. so, the means to creating something isnt the same thing as the thing created.

  • Upcoming EULA changes, round 4
... when posted up somewhere on the web. You can't protect the filters themselves....FF has absolutely no intention of lifting a finger to protect anything (thus totally restriction-free).....so the very best any author could hope for is having tangible copyrights on straight texture results by which they can protect/sell the copyrights themselves......

  • Golf Ball by DJI
Author: DJI. ( forking?). I hold no copyright on pictures of sports equipment,so upload whatever you like. It looks like you've added color to yours. That makes it a more flexible filter than mine. There's room for everybody's balls here on Filter Forge.com :)

  • Portable Filter Forge
Author: Kraellin. piece of cake... load windows into a vmware module and install FF into that vm-windows. then just copy the vm-windows to the flash drive and boot to it from any pc. just be aware that you may be in violation of about 1000 copyrights by doing so ;)

  • Light version of FF and comercial FF filters
Author: Trole. Vladimir, I didn't say that I don't like this concept (I think it's great), I only gave an example how things about copyrights with Renderman shaders work. BTW, there is an interesting aplication, Shaderman, http://www.dream.com.ua/thetool.html with similar great concept :)

  • Renderosity MarketPlace & FF library textures?
... render a 'derivative work', even if I did not modify it in any way? Any enlightened perspectives from someone more versed in Legalese? " By the way, way back when this all started, about a year ago, I asked this very question of Rendo's Copyright people, in their copyright forum. The answer was to the effect that since FF's EULA doesn't restrict resale of renders made from unaltered filter presets, and/or those made with a demo version, the 'original works' clause doesn't apply. (I don't ...
