  • How will EULA effect usage?
Author: StevieJ. I hope that the new EULA is going to allow authors to place copyright restrictions on ALL straight results from their texture filters.....because just restricting the presets will do absolutely nothing towards stopping resellers when they can just do a "quick tweek" on one control to get around it......

  • Upcoming EULA changes, round 3
... texture filters submitted AFTER proposed EULA in place..... + Authors use FF to market themselves and their filters..... + Authors and their filters get exposure..... + Authors get hired by employers like Fred (Sign Guy)..... + People buy author's copyrights to copy and resell texture preset paks..... + Quality of submitted texture filters increases..... _________________________________________________ = Increased profits for both FF and its' authors..... ;)

  • "All your filter are belong to someone else!"
Author: Kraellin. "StevieJ wrote: Craig has been trying to sell me a bridge for quite some time now..... " prime florida beach property, not bridges ;) "StevieJ wrote: Having the copyrights means absolutely nothing with unrestricted terms of use on the other end.....so we're back to not submitting them..... " yes, i knew what you meant, i was just playing the school marm in correcting the wording... bad habit :)

  • usage of user gallery in a free project
Author: Vladimir Golovin. If you're talking about textures posted in this forum (User Gallery), then the best way to find out would be to ask the copyright holders -- the people who made the textures. If you're talking about the Filter Library (http://www.filterforge.com/filters/), then you can use them -- they're free. No need to include the text/license.

  • Commercial use of filters
Author: Piress. Hello to everybody, I am creating new variants of existing filters. Can I use these variations for commercial purposes? Can I sell these filters on my own? What copyright do the database filters have? Are there any restrictions for the use of existing filters? Is there somewhere where these rights can be consulted? Many questions but I think it is necessary to know. Thank you in advance for answers

  • Second Life "merchant" may have your textures
... for all intents and purposes, once submitted, filters are really NOT protected. And... here's the real kicker: these merchants within Second Life... and I'm sure some outside of Second Life, such as those mentioned at Renderosity... are CLAIMING COPYRIGHT to the output results of YOUR FILTERS. (Incidentally... not long ago, there was a huge stink between Renderosity and a Second Life 'skin' maker... wherein Renderosity claimed this merchant in Second Life was pirating content from the Renderosity ...

  • How will EULA effect usage?
Author: StevieJ. "CFandM wrote: I know that I am saving mine... " You're not alone..... ;) :D I'm hoping that FF decides to take full advantage of making texture result copyrights tangible throught the new EULA.....by setting up a royalty-based texture pack storefront scheme and utilize it as part of an enhanced author incentive program..... Something like this would certainly "loosen my grip" ...

  • Upcoming EULA changes, round 3
Author: Carl. "StevieJ wrote: Really??? I was thinking that an author could create tilable texture packs from a single texture filter.....get very creative with it by running results thru other filters, etc.....and sell them with copyrights for let's say $10.00 each (what other sites are selling them for). At a 50/50 split with FF," I like the idea, but I'm use to my gallery stuff at 33 1/3 percent commision ;)

Author: ronviers. "Carl wrote: an insight into your personality" and my cheesy walls :| "Carl wrote: copyright crva" Nice exposure - excellent blues. Did you shoot it manual? • Resolving percentage for 1 pixel width?
Author: Kraellin. no, not really. when uber and dilla and you and vlad start talking tech, i pack up and go argue about copyrights and licenses ;) but, it wasnt that long ago, certainly not a year ago. more like a couple or three months back at the most, i would say. and it had to do with moving an offset by one pixel regardless of image size. that's the part i do recall....

  • Upcoming EULA changes, round two
... from being business as usual, since in my 10+ years in graphics, I never saw such reactions to unmodified filter use. Then again, FF seems to be a unique and new environment. " I have 22 years of graphics experience, and have seen many many copyright related squabbles of various shapes and forms.

... "Rawn (RawArt) wrote: If we go through the library now we will see hundreds of filters that are very close to each other, and heck, many times some of these filters are even just reworkings of previously submitted filters. So then who holds the copyright? " If you read current submission guidelings, you will see that unless the submitted filter is considered a substantial modification, it doesn't make it into the library.

  • is this allowed?
... the easiest way to protect yourself against people selling presets or only trivially altered versions of your filters is to create high-res bitmaps yourself and publish them publicly (for example on flickr.com) with an "all rights reserved" copyright notice. When their publishing date clearly precedes the one of the impostors' at least this might help you to convince sites like shutterstock to take down the parasites' copies.

Still not a terrible idea, just not a super efficient one in that you'd have 2 of the same filter then eh. And yeah, the whole convoluted copyright issue could also be a reason to scrap that plan anyways. jffe
