  • creating new lighting environment
Author: Kraellin. take any .jpg and simply manually change the .jpg to .exr. in filter forge there is an import .exr menu item. click on that and it will allow you to import your .jpg-now .exr into a lighting environment. but, be aware, this a VERY slow process. i forget the recommended image size, but it was either 200 x 400 pixels or 400 x 200, i think. and even that's going to take 10 or 15 minutes. larger sizes take a LOT longer. there are other ...

  • HDRI Upload/download Library?
... there was a repository some place online where we could share these files. It could save people a lot of time if they wanted to explore this area more. (Maybe the FF library should only accept filters that use presets that use only those 7 default environments, though...)

  • StevieJ's Lab :)
... Kraellin. ok, wont tell me, eh. then time to deflate your bubble a bit. there are two other ways to make an .exr for FF. you can simply go to windows explorer and change any .jpg file extension to .exr and it's good to import into FF to make the HDRI environments. the other way is to import any image into FF and simply save it back as an .exr. this is native to FF. :dgrin: :D :) (boy, i teach them how to tease and get nothing back but teases ;) )

  • 2 Free Filter Forge Environment HDRI's
... course, but if not, then you really probably shouldn't be posting these even in .ffenv format, as they are still copyrighted and all. On a related note, I am bummed to hear they take that long to import into FF, as I was planning to get a set of Sachform environs, but I only have a single core computer and 400 X 800 images take like 90+ minutes to import. :| jffe

  • Free EXR To FFENV Conversion Service (Lighting Environments)
Author: ValhaIIa. Um for some reason the post did not save. Here's a quick overview, and I'll fix the rest later. I have a automation setup for importing hdri files to FF. If you have hdri images scaled to the proper size and don't mind sharing them I will convert them and create a library of open source FFENV files for everyone to use. I'm busy because of the holidays, but I'll rewrite the long post again on January 2nd. :( No clue why it did not save my first post. :(

  • Sharing Noise
Author: Skybase. Very nice! Keep em rolling. Also do post practical noise patterns if anybody's got any. For example: Natural noise patterns for game environment. Noise found in interior design, clothing, art, life itself. Noise patterns with unique technical unique properties otherwise not just noise patterns in themselves. Practical noise snippets that have a purpose and meaning. Noise that outlines ...

  • Ambient Occlusion by Mike Blackney
... is changing the basic shapes and forms at times, or at least the 'apparent' shapes and forms. i would think this would be something to avoid in a true lighting scheme. it's kind of cool in an artistic view, but for true lighting, particularly in 3d environment, i'm not so sure it's desirable. p.s. when i said 'last' here, i was referring to the stones images, not the spheres. that spheres one was posted while i was writing.

  • Foxxee's Pearls And Beads by Foxxee
Author: Foxxee. I'm not sure what you mean, Kraellin, when you say it reminds you of the hdri filter environment. Is that a 'good' thing or a 'bad' thing :?: Thanks so much, Persidio :) I am partial to these sort of filters, especially when I first got PSP 3 way back when I was first learning to translate my artwork to digital media instead ...

  • Can I get specular/reflection modulated separately from base color?
... separate modulation mask for the diffuse/ambient term and for the specular/reflection term. This would allow me to make a surface that's black (or very dark) yet has bright highlights or shiny reflections. Separately: Is there a way to introduce new environment maps?

  • Cross Weave by ronviers
Author: CFandM. "Kraellin wrote: the trick with having a surface filter look like a simple filter, is to turn down the height under the lighting tab. that way you still get some of the hdri environments." Good stuff ronviers..What I do and if you look at my HDRI filter is instead of plugging a height map into the height on the result component plug the profile grad into the height instead..Make sure its colors are black..You get ...

  • Submission Error
Author: Crapadilla. "Kraellin wrote: where do you get those other environments from? " Well, there are free ones around, for example here (http://www.debevec.org/Probes/). You will have to convert them to latitude/longtitude format with HDR Shop for example. Since you would only need them at a size of 400 x ...

  • Dot Paper by Rachel Duim
Author: Valhalla. Thanks, I hope they are useful in your future filters along with anyone else using them. Here is the short story of why. After trying to find some new filter forge environments using the forum and very targeted Google search operators and only coming across four or five I looked into everything needed, wrote a small script to automate and pressed start. Eventually after a couple of months and some weeks later it ...

  • Morph Component
... FF allowed multiple images to be loaded, I'd get rid of that darn ultra old school one filter at a time serial processing program called Photoshop :D (this is probably what I want the most... to be able to work with "layers" in a modular environment) oh yeah and morphing would be cool too ;) Its just much more than just loading two images and hit "magic morph" - you need correspondance points etc. It would be quite complicated

  • Anisotropic surface texture
... wrong material for rainbow refelctions. The reflections should still be offset and blurred according to viewing angle and surface characteristics but just not rainbows. That's why it would be nice to be able to take luminosity information from the HDRI environment to use to define the shading network - as it is, I think, we have to fake anisotropic reflections. I like what you did with your filter using the threshold and alpha components but wouldn't you need to stretch or otherwise give the surface ...

  • Colorful Spherical Pinwheels by DJI
Author: EAdams. Thank you for uploading this great filter! It is one of those filters that make me want to use it somehow. What has partly kept me from using reflective filters so far is that the default lighting environment options all have reflections that are too distinctive. I'm sure there must be a way to change the setting to look reflective without seeing an actual reflection. I like the default "Entrance, Night" reflection very much, but I don't ...

  • Very very slow performance
... performance monitor: available physical memory was approx 300Mb, processor was busy at 100% all time, and no activity with hard disks for paging memory I've noticed. Just pure calculations. Rixx, do you think I came here to listen your nonsenses? Environment variables is *variables* and if some app has "fail/dysfunction" from change the variable data then that app going to toilet immediately. So if FF is one of them I ready to uninstall it asap.

  • Can I get specular/reflection modulated separately from base color?
... what you mean. The height parameter does affect how the surface detail looks and will also affect how the specular/reflections will appear in the output. I'll make you a sample filter to explain. "Separately: Is there a way to introduce new environment maps?" Go into tools > HDRI import HDRI import tends to be slow so work with small HDR images.

  • Props to FF Team! HDRI import + AO map
Author: Kraellin. corvus, there are several threads in the forums where i've posted how to do the imports, in case anyone doesnt know. and i learned from a post by one of the FF guys. what we really need is a good way to pass the finished, custom environments around to each other... a common website where we could download (and upload) them. i'd be happy to post a few. i just dont want it to be youtube or flikr or someplace like that. i'd prefer an FF sponsored site or an authored sponsored site....

  • New Pattern Component: Radial Tiles
Author: Skybase. Well, there are things you have to have before stuff like this works. The idea isn't so much to create a component but to create a environment that can accept feedback or looping capabilities (as far as I imagine.) The idea of feedback means to literally take the post node's results and feed it back into the beginning. So then it cycles through the same operations once again using ...

  • batches for all
... Sjeiti. "KGtheway2B wrote: It's very intuitive" Well... I think I managed to screw that up :D I'm now trying to implement every option imaginable: - basic settings (size, variation, seamless, antialiasing etc...) - surface settings (environment, height, brightness, saturation, rotation) - rendering options (9 more things to choose) Along with all the controls it's becoming pretty non-intuitive. It's probably a good thing to hide some of these options by default (untill you click ...
