  • Upcoming EULA changes, round two
Author: Rawn (RawArt). Defining the different phrases being thrown around here would definatly be a good start, as well as providing some clarity as to what is and isnt covered in the authors copyright and about the different liscenses going on (the one where we liscense to FF to distribute the filters, and the one FF gives to the end user) and what is actually covered in them. Because it seems like alot of people don't really understand how ...

  • Light version of FF and comercial FF filters
... to do with it whatever you want applies also for Beta testers " Well, that phrase isn't present in the EULA / Upload License ;) That was just my non-lawyer attempt to explain that we don't claim ownership of filters and the authors retain the copyright. Logically, you are free to do with your property whatever you want assuming that your actions don't conflict with the EULA / Upload License.

  • Second Life "merchant" may have your textures
... "Vladimir Golovin wrote: We can't get back what we gave away with v1.0, but we've learned a very valuable lesson." "Crapadilla wrote: The lesson being?" I'll make an educated guess that it's in reference to "giving away" copyrights on straight texture results (the "unrestricted use" thingy in the EULA :D ).....maybe they are going to implement a EULA restriction on reselling straight texture reults.....maybe take it back from all the texture resellers taking ...

  • Upcoming EULA changes, round 3
Author: StevieJ. So true..... ;) :) I was just thinking (yep, I can do that sometimes :D ).....for example, you achieve my suggested "storefront" reward level.....you sell a texture package (result copyrights) to a texture filter for $5.00.....for each one sold, FF gets $4.00 and you get $1.00......100 sales means $400.00 to FF and $100.00 to you.....which would certainly work as dual incentives for both FF and authors.....and more than justify ...

... themselves , exploit everything, make as much money out of everything as you can get away with, callous greed is the norm - so I like the idea of freely sharing filters and it sadden me when people sell them and claim them as there own even slapping a copyright notice on them. And yes we all need to make money to survive but there has to be honesty, integrity and fairness............. ok getting off my soapbox now  :)

... *File*, *New Image* and set a blank or solid colored background to start with, or *File*, *Open Image*, to select an image of your own to work with at any time. The reason you can't save images with filters is obvious as far as the library is concerned, copyright. jffe

... identified." that's a bit crazy. "...and would wait a C & D from an attorney." what's a C & D? i'm guessing some kind of infringement search, but never heard the term before. it's certainly a tricky area, this clip-art/photo copyright stuff. i run into some of it on retouchpro.com, but i'm guessing you have to walk on pins and needles at times.

  • "All your filter are belong to someone else!"
... expressly permitted by the Licensor, images derived Using the Product or Filters (“Results”), unless such Results constitute a derivative work as provided above I'm not trying to be a stitch but this is very important and to avoid any copyright issues, I need it to be extremely clear. I guess I need to know what "derivative work as provided above" means, as well.

  • Suggest a new filter.
Author: Kraellin. redcap, i dont think so. if you're using any part of their filter, i.e. code, images, etc, then it would be a violation. but, if you're just simulating a look and it's all your creation, then no. the IDEA of the filter isnt copyrightable. in other words, there's nothing to prevent you from going out and painting a new mona lisa. you couldnt sell it as the original; that would be fraud. but you could paint one and sell it as an imitation/duplicate. at least, that's my understanding....

Well-known light probes by Paul Debevec and/or people from USC: http://www.debevec.org/Probes/ http://gl.ict.usc.edu/Data/HighResProbes/ We wrote Paul asking for a permission to use them, since they are copyrighted, but if I recall correctly -- got no response. ... completely. and, as i recall, the developers have given us a green light in the past to talk about and post links to folks like genetica and so on. so, it's not a bit deal. post your link. pictures are another thing. you really do need to observe copyright laws there. now, i'm really not one to preach on that subject. i've used others pics before, but still, getting permission if you dont know if it's ok is always a good idea.

  • 2 Free Filter Forge Environment HDRI's
Author: jffe. John, Are you with Sachform, ie = umm, legally allowed to pass these out ? If so, then thank you very much of course, but if not, then you really probably shouldn't be posting these even in .ffenv format, as they are still copyrighted and all. On a related note, I am bummed to hear they take that long to import into FF, as I was planning to get a set of Sachform environs, but I only have a single core computer and 400 X 800 images take like 90+ minutes to import. :| ...

Author: Mardar. "OK, I reread that last post .... boy do I sound grumpy ... must have been a late night ....." Gene you sound just fine to me. I also have issues with copyright infringement. • Photo Editor to complement FF
Author: Skybase. So technically, given the nature of this software, the community effects library cannot and never have a single case of copyright infringement for this to work smoothly. You surely can replace the effect with your own image, but I'm talking more about quality control of the contents that you paid for. You basically can't have images with questionable backgrounds slipping ...
