  • Upcoming EULA changes, round two
... " ----If I had tact, well, they'd need to pay me a lot more for that. I just hope Vlad actually "changes" something, otherwise, it's downhill from here...And 'we've only just begun' in my book. I saw this program, a graphic modular environment for creating Photoshop filters (stand-alone exports would be nice, but was never promised in the bible etc.), in my mind, years ago. I've waited for it, well, was waiting for it, literally. And now it's here, and it's failing more or less....

  • New Processing Components: Illumination, Shadow, Reflect
... Yes. That is offcourse problem (not in my filter because it uses own lightning inteface) which could be rounded by allowing filter to have information about lingning controls. " Also, 'real' shadows would pick up the 'ambient' color of the environment, leading to greater realism. " I don't understand why faked shadows could not do this? And I am npt trying to say that this fake makes idea of real shadows obsolete. It does not... Nut still usable way to create hard shadow if ...

  • So I made HDRI maps for FF
... but I feel any size larger is slow" How do you load external HDRI inside FF? There is no load or import option in the lighting tab or in the menus. Or do you have to copy them here? C:\Users\SpaceRay\AppData\Roaming\Filter Forge 4\My Environments what is the original size of the built-in HDRI already available inside FF?

  • Failure to plug into photoshop CS5.1
... copying FF3 folder structure), leaving FF3 in place under Applications. Same result: Photoshop crashes. Using FF3 as a stand-alone application isn't what I expected and isn't a viable solution. I need it to work in Photoshop--as advertised. Current environment: OS X 10.6.8 running on Intel Core i7 MacBook Pro, Photoshop CS 5.1 Any other suggestions? Jerry Spaeder

  • Quantum computer chips are the future that is near now as shown here
... be within striking distance. " "Decoherence" is the main problem with quantum computing: "One of the greatest challenges in making a quantum computer viable is countering so-called quantum decoherence. Interference from the environment causes incorrect calculations and a higher error rate than any standard digital computer." So getting rates over 50 qubits seems to be the threshold Google and others are shooting for to beat the best supercomputers. Probably in the ...

  • Is FF Inc. making something for FF 4.0 to have a FASTER render engine?
... Skybase. "SD does have a node based filter editor, it's just more intimidating to use." Well, put it this way. Substance Designer is one of those things that's oriented towards high end users who really want procedural textures within a given environment. In most cases Substance does a great job with previews, nice render speeds, and integration into other software. The full awesomeness of Substance, as far as I feel, happens when you just plug it into UDK. Just makes life so much easier. ...

  • The FF HDR environs in surround sound.
... don't know if it will be in V2 or not..... " ----It seems like we asked/they responded about it a year or so ago. So it's probably on the B-list of new features at least eh. :D ----Meanwhile, I've been importing a 1500 X 750 .exr lighting environment since midnight (11 hours now) and it's not even half done. Hint to FF = consider making that feature use both cores in the future. jffe

  • How do I move the default folder for filters?
Author: Fuzfavesszo. GMM, Thank you, but it seems risky, I don't want to bother the other softwares, only Filter Forge is in the wrong place. ... begin with, thus altering what i thought i had once it's in the library. maybe there could be a warning/caution/reminder put in the filter submission process somewhere, similar to the warnings we get when we've still got a preset with a custom lighting environment? it doesnt have to block the submission, but something to remind us that seamless is going to be forced on once the filter is posted in the library. perhaps it could just do a check of the seamless radio button on the presets and popup a warning ...

  • HDRI Upload/download Library?
Author: Kraellin. onyx, that's good to know. seems i've been doing mine backwards, going 1:2 rather than 2:1. lol. that's just about par for me. and i had wondered, in the past, about jffe's question also. i've gotten a lot of my custom environments up only to find that it just seemed to color an image one tint but not a lot of varied lighting. so, it's been a bit of a mystery to me. not sure i understand the lattitude/longitude explanation. is that because you can move the sphere ...

  • Sunset Cottage by Vince Whitmore
... so on. I don't really have a perfect solution to this but often times where I work we just use z-depth and subtly blur certain areas out but that probably isn't the solution here. Either way, that was just my thoughts on it. I hope it helps. Environment design! Fun fun :) Please keep it up.

  • 3D Slab-Glass Art....
... insulators on telephone and power lines, the old cup or bell type. those were heavy, thick glass and that's what that green one reminds me of most. as for your depressions, i claim no responsibility; got too many of my own ;) and on the lighting environments, they seem to work where whatever is in the exact middle of the sphere has the most influence on your image and tapers out from there. this was not how i expected them to work. when i move my rainbow one and change the prominent color, the ...

Author: Vladimir Golovin. "Kraellin wrote: i've noticed that FF is being used by a lot of professionals, many of which are in the computer game industry. they want specifics. they want textures they can use in their environments. and i think vlad has somewhat catered to this from the very conception of FF, and that's fine; i'm not trying to rebuke him for having done so (i'll probably find out i'm wrong on this from vlad, but it is a trend i've noticed)" ...

... incidence is too steep, the reflection is multiplied by a mask (threshold from y-normals). The offset is done in a loop to help with aliasing. Rainstreet is pretty much the same thing, but the reflecting surface is also displaced using smudge. The "environment" is just a bunch of cells and blocks noise to give an impression of lights and some structures. I'm hoping to release the lens blur filter at some point, but there are still problems to be solved. Haven't figured out how to make it ...

  • Manual Download...please!!!...
... but it's a trivial task to allow direct http filter downloads for those that cannot obtain them through the system. I would certainly love it if I could. When the final software is released, and you get a larger base using FF in the work production environment, you may find this issue arising more and more. Some companies are just plain anal about their network exposure, the one I work for being one of them.

  • Rearranging file locations
... bought a new computer and it has four harddrives, C:, for my system stuff, D:, for program files, and E: (mirrored), for my data files. This makes it very easy to back up my "I don't want to lose these" files, like my filters and user made environments and so on. I can get normal filters from the library or use the back-up tool within FF, but I cant move the data files of the 'MY' category without losing the path. I'm not sure how difficult this would be from a programming standpoint, but ...

  • The Pursuit for Paths
... SpaceRay, those were done in Mathematica (totally script and pixel based), so to be able to do something similar in Filter Forge is the tops. I've already found FF to be far superior in doing density plots using the scripting component; in a pixel based environment it is painfully slow. ...scalpel...check 8)
