certain countries allow derivative works providing the alteration from the original is sufficient enough to be considered its own work and not just a copy or very close relative of the original. since, as fred pointed out, disputes against FF over copyrights and such would be handled in virginia and since the laws of the nation about copyrights are federal and not state, the copyright laws of the united states would take precendence in a legal battle and that battle would be fought in virginia....

The thing is, the only thing FF can leagally attribute copyrights to is the code that makes up the presets. So that code cannot be copied legally...but the output created by FF software using this code cannot be copyrighted....

----Those are copyrighted by the creator. Technically, you can't copyright a photo enhancement tool, like a sharpener, or color changer, but a texture is legally a "work of art" in and of itself. The textures made by presets, are most definitely protected ...

I just did a little research on if a preset is part of the copyright of the filter. On other softwares, some presets are clearly stated copyrighted, some are not. FF only talks of the filter. Now, a filter is basically programming lingo to create an effect. A preset is a result of the filter in action. An end ...
