  • HDRI Upload/download Library?
Author: jffe. Well, I got it (renaming a .jpg as .exr and importing it as an HDRI) to work, but it uhh, sucked ha-ha. Can we maybe get a thread/sticky going about where to get good HDRI files, be they free or payware ? I've seen a few around online, and am interested in blowing a few bucks on some good ones in the near future,...

  • Exr Files
Author: onyXMaster. Well, it was more a term-oriented decision, since JPEG's are not HDRIs, so importing them as HDRIs sounds wrong. Maybe HDRI Import should be renamed to Lighting Environment import or whatever. If it is renamed, I think accepting JPEG's, BMP's and other LDR images may be fine.

  • HDRI import CPU usage...
Author: Igor Lorents. Currently the HDRI import is single-threaded, that's why it uses only about 15% of your computer's processing power. Multi-threaded version is a low-priority task on our TODO.

... along with adding an HDRI editor" ----That's possible down the road, a few bigger name apps do include that. And there are a few somewhat affordable ones that just do that kind of thing available. "StevieJ wrote: and customizable HDRI components" ----That I wouldn't hold my breathe for, but I suppose it's possible. ----Friendlier (ie = waayyy faster) importing of lighting files, support for .hdr, and the up/down movable lighting are all must-have features at some point. The rest, well, I don't know enough to comment on other than those 3 things that I feel are sorely lacking in a high level program ...

  • HDRI Upload/download Library?
Author: Kraellin. "On your last paragraph I got the first two references but the third "hdri environments for the surface lighting environment"? " sorry, that shld have been simply 'hdri environments' or 'lighting environment'. 'church', 'bridge' and those are what i was trying to say. as for: "It looks like you had the same idea. Would they really be too large?" , i'm assuming you mean using large .exr files imported into FF for environments. be prepared for some VERY long rendering times if you start using images over about 400 x 400 pixels. as i recall, something as small as a 1024 x 1024 takes HOURS to import into FF. 200 x 400 is relatively fast, taking ...

... copyright part. and i dont see a good way around that except as you say, allow this for user's filters only. if you had stock imports then versatility is lost. if you allow it for uploaded filters, then copyrights would inevitably be violated by someone.... ... see. i'll think on it some more. but i'm encouraged by the 'for user's filters only' part. i may also experiment more with hdri. it might be i can accomplish some of what i'm talking about with specific hdri's tailored to a specific image.

  • HDRI or IBL Options
Author: CFandM. Hello Thomas and welcome.. :) Heres one of the threads talking about the importing of the Hdri Environments.. http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=4257&MID=42549&sphrase_id=18124#message42549

  • Brushed Stainless Steel by ronviers
Author: ronviers. The effectiveness of this filter can be extended by importing an appropriate image to provide lighting. For example, I renamed a 1200x600 version of this image from abSm.jpg to abSm.exr and used the FF Tools>HDRI Import menu option to add it to the environment ball library.

  • HDRI Upload/download Library?
Author: onyXMaster. Well, to start I want to note say that if you're importing correctly formatted HDRI images (latitude-longitude format), the source HDRI aspect ratio should be 2:1 (pretty obvious, 360 degrees latitude, 180 degrees longitude, that's 2:1). And for output precision -- it varies, and varies a lot. If you have a noisy surface, have ...

  • Carl's Corner :)
Author: StevieJ. "ronviers wrote: Carl sent you a plugin you found in the program's help?" Sorry, I thought you wanted the info on HDRI imports into TS and Blender..... :| I don't know where Carl got the HDR plugin.....Cheekus??? ;) :D

  • Nebulae in Progress
Author: Betis. For some reason, I totally understood that "self contained" tool idea of yours. hehe. 8) Hey if anyone can help, I don't know how to make HDRI files to import... That would be nice...

  • Exr Files
... changing the extension in windows explorer and that that then makes it possible to import this former, but still really a .jpg into FF as a lighting environment, why not just allow a direct import of .jpg's (and maybe even other file formats) into the HDRI import function? seems a simple enough thing.

  • Importing your own greyscale images to use as noise patterns
... So what is Filter Forge? Is it only for creating experimental textures? Due to the lack of control. I don't see how you can get what you're looking for if you can't import your own patterns?? Can you import anything into FF other than the HDRI stuff? Like I can't import an image to apply Filters too? Maybe I'm not understanding. I just started using it today. Thanks

  • Bug: script Input Editor labels missing
Author: GMM. Yes, labels are missing in Input Editor, in HDRI Import dialog and somewhere else. We'll need to check all dialog boxes for this issue. Thank you Sphinx, that's one more bug point for you.

  • JPG to EXR library
Author: Kraellin. ok, i saved out an image from Ronvier's 'Birth of an Orb' and sized it down to 400 x 200 and rotated it 90 degrees, saved it as a .jpg and then renamed it to an .exr. i then imported it into FF's HDRI import to make a lighting environment of it. attached is the image used. the render time shld be under 10 minutes on this one.

  • Lighting Control
Author: onyXMaster. We only licensed HDRI _images_ that come with FF, so there is nothing to reverse engineer for us. The "import" and actual "rendering" algorithms and their implementation are of our own, developed completely in-house. And ... I'll leave answering the original questions to Vladimir :)

  • HDRI Upload/download Library?
Author: infiniview. For people reading this that do not know what I am talking about. It is the image choice applied to the chrome ball in the lighting section. At least on my comp when I import an image I take off for a while or go to bed as it seems to take around 4 hours to load. But the idea is that the human eye can react to light levels far beyond what can be presented traditionally on a computer monitor. HDRI i.e High Dynamic Range Imaging, is a method of getting around this limitation. So as I understand it you capture multiple exposures of the same image scene and then run these through a program that blends them in just the right way to give you ...

  • HDRI Import
Author: Quasimondo. Speaking of HDRI import. I know that purists will probably howl over this, but I would like to be able to import also simple JPEGs as lighting maps. I know that the quality would probably be sub-optimal, but I think that for experimental or artistic purposes this could ...

  • UI and HDRI
Author: Vladimir Golovin. "jffe wrote: I'd swear we were told that the HDRI Import function doesn't utilize multiple cores currently though, so just adding that would make it about 2X as fast at least no ? " True, but that's on low priority.

  • Submission Error
... another question here too... if one person imports one of these and it's working in FF, could they simply make a copy of that and have it just copied over to another version of FF? or does this only work if you run everything through the tools > hdri import? craig
