  • CorvusCroax's Junkyard
Author: StevieJ. Yeah, I encountered the same thing.....so I only edit filters with FF as a stand-alone without PS..... I'm really surprised that FF didn't fix the resource leak problem before releasing the Mac version.....which shares the same third-party 'problem' code.....and risk the Mac users being turned off by this 'instability' issue..... :|

  • Strange bug with saving
Author: StevieJ. Call me crazy.....but it sounds like part of the Bastard Bug (aka - resource leak) that you don't get.....so welcome to the club...... ;) :D That used to happen to me too when I left FF running too long.....and to avoid it, I now do frequent shutdowns and re-starts of FF......

  • CorvusCroax's Junkyard
... frequent shutdowns and restarts of FF.....and religeously save a copy of the "My filters" file outside of the FF folder......especially after I've completed work that would not easily be replicated......" See, I never understood why that resource leak was so big a problem... ;) :dgrin:

  • V1 Fixed Before Mac
Author: StevieJ. I don't blame Vlad for doing an end-run around MS to save truckloads of money.....but if that resource leak/bug can't be figured out, I'm just suggesting that it might be a good idea to "pay the fiddler" and get everything ironed out before moving on to the Mac version and further program enhancements...... ;)

  • Prop Prof Grad!!!
Author: Kraellin. steve, the secret to getting that one thing you want, is to not ask for anything else ;) so, what's it going to be, fix the resource leak or this one or something else? pick one and push that one. the rest you stick on a list and leave alone till you get the first one ;)

  • Competetion
Author: CFandM. "StevieJ wrote: I like the idea of competitions and FF using then to get what they want for the library.....but I'm hoping that FF's effort priorities currently lie with overhauling the code to do away with that #$@%&$#@! resource leak problem, Mac version, and PC V2 to counter Genetica 3.0..... Devil" I agree with you on those points Stevie... :)

  • Laptop Gurus???
Author: StevieJ. It worked well to help prevent FF from crashing during the "resource leak" era.....but I was also "pre-programmed" to do frequent saves, shutdowns, and re-starts with FF in order to avoid it..... ;) :) Doing the "3x Ram, static, contiguous swap file" also seemed to make everything else run ...

  • PicLens support for the whole FF site!
Author: StevieJ. Well, everything was working fine until I openned FF..... :?: PicLens is a cool little add-on.....but I'm kinda scratching my head to why FF is doing anything else besides putting all energy into getting rid of this ongoing "Resource Leak" problem. I can't imagine that they are going to release the Mac and PC V2 versions without remedying it first..... :?:

  • Top 5 "Fixes"......
Author: Kraellin. "onyXMaster wrote: I know it's of no excuse, but I would like to note that the resource leak is in the code of one of our third-party libraries." oh. well, that's actually good to know. "onyXMaster wrote: No, this library isn't essential for FF functionality, so we probably might replace it with something compatible." ...

  • Can you smell it too?
Author: StevieJ. "Vladimir Golovin wrote: we're using a single codebase approach." If that is the case.....then I would make an educated guess that you are remedying the 'resource leak' problem in PC V1.xxxx and then releasing the Mac version upon the "fixed" code.....maybe even releasing Mac version with the PC V2 enhancements/goodies as well..... How am I doing???

  • V1 Fixed Before Mac
Author: GMM. "StevieJ wrote: I would suggest spending some $$$ on properly re-doing Windows " This is probably the very thing one ought to do in order to fix the problem ;-) Hopefully there'll be no leak under Mac, as there are no Windows resources under Mac. Moreover, the major overhaul of the code which is to take place in the v. 2.0, will probably cause the bug to disappear automatically.

  • Resource Leak
... or save files (in any application, not just Filter Forge!). Windows starts popping up errors because it can't display icons for things like "My Documents" and all sorts of other mess. I would have saved some screenshots, but I didn't have resources to do anything until I closed filter forge. The first time this happened, I was rendering images for diffuse, specular, normal, and bump maps with my slimy metal plates filter. The second time -- and this one hurt -- I was in the filter ...

  • Anyone Crashed Lately?
Author: Beliria. "StevieJ wrote: I don't think it's a "resource leak" per se......it's more like a "Resource Hog".....gobbling and bunging things up in your OS...." Well I know I cant run Second life and FF at the same time but that might be cause I only have 1 gig ram, prob if I had dual core ...

  • High Res Optimization???
Author: StevieJ. Thanks for doing that.....wasn't actually giving me problems, but it was with some others who are using FF..... My only problems have stemmed from the "resource leak" problems.....but I've been trying out different things to try and "dull down" the problems from it.....like I discovered that my anti-virus software (Sophos) and Windows Defender were having repeated issues with FF's "x86" ...

  • PicLens support for the whole FF site!
Author: StevieJ. Well, by what I just experienced, I realize that PicLens wasn't the culprit..... :hammer: I hate to say anything bad about FF because I love the program.....but man, this ongoing stability issue (aka - "Resource Leak") really needs to be "nipped in the bud" once and for all..... I would strongly suggest that FF dump the third party OS patch code and do the unthinkable.....get some M$ Support.....

  • Carl's Corner :)
Author: ronviers. "Carl wrote: maybe he would listen to you" IMO, It has been shortsighted on the part of FF for failing to recognize his contribution to the bottom line and the community. Plus they did not place a high priority on fixing the resource leak and ironing out the eula issues – I know that those were two things that bugged him. It should be FF that tries to get him to return.

  • Top 5 "Fixes"......
Author: ronviers. "onyXMaster wrote: the resource leak is in the code of one of our third-party libraries" There you have it; problem isolated, and my original complaint evaporates into a puff of renewed optimism. :D "Vladimir Golovin wrote: Advertising in printed mags (and everywhere) ...

  • Re Quota Error
Author: onyXMaster. Yes, it's a known bug caused by the resource leak in one of the third-party closed-source libraries we use. Unfortunately, the aforementioned library development/support became literally nonexistent over the course of the preceding two years (someone bought the development company IIRC), so we're ...

  • Odd behaviour with Filter Updates
... wondering if there are "optimal" advanced OS settings (buffers, memory, etc.) that should be used for best performance of FF??? "Crapadilla wrote: slider manipulation 'feel' has changed " Yeah.....but I thought it was part of the resource leak problem because I've been getting it all along.....and I think the "stickiness" is definitely a bug because it should work and act exactly the same as it does in all other programs..... :|

  • Crapadilla's Junkyard
Author: CFandM. "Crapadilla wrote: PLASTIC CHEESE MOONS" hehe Its funny you got a cheese one...I had made a cheese one not long ago but then when I was almost finshed I had a Resource Leak and the filter is no longer around... This one wants me to make cheese again... "Crapadilla wrote: This early one was waaaaaay too cheesy to submit." But it does have a nice frosted look on those squares. But might be handy for ...
