JPG to EXR library
... actually used to make .exr's which they then imported into the lighting environment.
the reason for this is that it's not very practical for FF to allow custom lighting environments (LE) to be uploaded into the library. the biggest barrier to that is copyrights. someone slips in a copyrighted image made into an LE and we've then got legal woes.
however, there is no reason we cant start our own library of .jpg's that we convert into .exr's and use ourselves. thus, the reason for this thread.

... for stock (we all have our own opinions on where to draw the line). If I buy ff (or download a trial, why images are not watermarked during trial is beyond me) and do a million dollar advertising campaign that is ok, but selling it for $1 isn't??
Copyright varies country to to country, some countries dont even recognise it but AFAIK filter creators create a filter which they have copyright over not the final product so dont have copyright the final image produced. much like if use a word template ...

... with the program....and FF loses sales. All this nonsense and harrasment of FF customers is doing a great diservice to FF.
The simple facts are that the "rendered output" from a particular program cannot be considered part of the programs copyright. The presets one includes are particular lines of code, and those lines can be copyrighted (if FF so decides...and that has NOT been made clear one way or another). Therefore that copyright can ONLY ensure that people dont take one of your presets ...

that depends wholly on the licensing. derivative works is one of the worst understood aspects of the u.s. copyright laws. basically, under just the copyright laws, derivative works almost always lose any court battle when the author of such hasnt obtained any rights from the original author(s).

... was discovered that people would take a bunch, and go sell them around the corner for profit. I'm little fuzzy on the exact details, but I do remember a discussion that reproduction or resale of freely distributed marketing materials is a violation of copyrights. One can easily argue that one of the functions of the filters being freely available here is marketing and promotion.
Filters are not purchased, software is. For all you know, the person could be using a demo version... LOL

And I did read in these posts that you "do not retain copyrights" in the current set-up- but that you give them up and the image and filter are royalty free. There's a big difference. (((Have no problem giving up copyrights for Filter Forge Artists to use them))).

Author: GMM. Feel free to use any Filter Forge textures and effects for any commercial purposes. Filter authors hold the copyright to the filter files proper (.ffxml files), while the copyright to the final images rendered in Filter Forge belongs to the end user, that is you.
