  • Specular exponent too large
Author: johnt. I'm getting this error Specular exponent 10000 is too large (greater than 10000) for environment 034C65F0. Submitted a bug report and was told it was a corrupted environment and that I should redownload and install. I uninstalled, deleted the FF application data folder, downloaded and reinstalled and I still get the error. Is there ...

  • New awesome TEXT component FF 14 - How to get the most of it?
Author: CFandM. "SpaceRay wrote: I think this means that you can not submit a filter to Filter library with any CUSTOM text?? And what about single letters?" That is the way that I see it. Same as custom HDR environments if you submit a filter it will default to the default environment. Thus the filter will not look the way you designed it to. By text they mean font as well as text string.

... size from one of the FF team was stated to be 400 x 200. that's not a fixed number, but on a single core, 3 ghz machine, that size is going to take like 10 or 15 minutes. as your file size goes up, so will the rendering time to get your hdri lighting environment. i'm not sure if it's a geometric progression on time, but it wouldnt surprise me if it was. so, keep your .exr files small. also, remember that the lighting environment 'sphere' only moves laterally, currently. so, if you use an image ...

... understand now, I totally forgot about the HDRI enviromment that is available in the surface filters on the Lighting tab, as I have never used any custom one, just the default built-in. I agree that would be good to share and have additional custom HDRI environments inside FF, as I found that with my Photo Crystal Marbles Maker (http://filterforge.com/filters/10754.html) filter it would benefit from better HDRI environment

Author: onyXMaster. When you use environment mapping (Filter Forge lighting uses this technology as a part of Surface filters rendering), you get the reflection for _orientation_, since the lighting environment itself is positioned infinitely far from the surface itself. So, you will ...

  • Angled Height Maps
Author: Indigo Ray. Welcome! I see that "flatness" you're talking about when you set the perlin noise angle to 90. I also noticed that you are using the same settings in the lighting tab for all presets. Try spinning the environment ball, or picking a different environment (maybe an outdoor one, since vinyl sidings are usually outside?), etc. In other words, it still has height, it just needs better lighting. More info on the lighting tab here (https://filterforge....

  • Follow-up of Previous Bug Reports
.... on double clicking to start up, i get the popup asking if i want to buy or 30 day trial. i pick 30 day trial and the machine starts cranking, trying to start FF2. this takes quite a while, i suspect because of the 5046 filters and a dozen or so environments and however many presets there are from vers one 'my filters' that have never been processed, cached or thumbnailed in version 2. whatever the reason, it starts eating vista's resources pretty heavily. finally, i get the error message that ...

Author: ronviers. "Carl wrote: I didn't realize you could supply the image with your filter when submitting it to the library" I wish, but no, what you see in the mirrors are the environments supplied with FF. You just might not have noticed the car before. You can use this filter to explore the environments. There is a control to rotate the ball on the other axis (like a clock) and a control to move the objects nearer and farther ...

... with it. usually doesnt take too long :) then, i'll start fooling with the editor. typically, i'll make mega weapons and armor and junk just to see how lethal things can be, then i'll start toning back till i find a good way to balance and start making environments. though, sometimes i start the other way around, i start making the environments and juggle that all around until i find the balance. just depends :)

... Doh! Only thing I can think of is 'the natural world' as in with animals. And defective births are possible with them because of interbreeding/lack of fresh gene pool samples and probably stressful situations. But as to if in a healthy natural environment the same can be applied then no clue. Being that there is no data to support whether there has been a healthy natural environment or if there was how the populations lived the answer you require has been shelved until further notice of ...

... search function isn't a means of organizing files IMO, and in the opinion of anyone that has to answer to a team or boss about why they have to manually point the texture artists to the filter using the exact spelling of the name in many cases(in a team environment). FF is a great tool, if you have only 50 filters, and aren't working in a team environment. for my personal projects, I will definitely use FF, and constantly reference my text-edit note files on what filters and presets I need to use for ...

  • "Clean" Lighting
... been mentioned many times before, but couldn't hurt to mention it again.....maybe the "squeeky wheels will get the grease" so to say ;) :D In my opinion, there is way too much reflection "junk" in all the existing lighting environments. You can't turn the 'ball' up to the sky to get away from it.....and turning down the height looses the desirable light reflections..... New lighting environments with reletively flat horizon reflections and the ability to turn up the ...

    Author: Vladimir Golovin.
