  • HDRI Import
Author: onyXMaster. HDRI importing is very slow. While our algorithm is like 40x faster than generic brute-force one (see Paul Debevec's HDRShop), it still requires a lot of computation effort, since we're computing width*height*K cosine-weighted spherical integrals, where K ...

  • how own hdri-panorama using?
Author: Kraellin. take any .jpg image, manually change the 'jgp' to 'exr' and then run FF. in the menu system under 'tools' you'll find an item called 'HDRI import'. run that and when it asks for an image use the file you just converted the extension on. then sit back and wait a day or two ;) actually, it doesnt have to take that long if you keep your import image fairly small, like under 400 pixels, but ...

  • StevieJ's Lab :)
Author: Kraellin. ok, wont tell me, eh. then time to deflate your bubble a bit. there are two other ways to make an .exr for FF. you can simply go to windows explorer and change any .jpg file extension to .exr and it's good to import into FF to make the HDRI environments. the other way is to import any image into FF and simply save it back as an .exr. this is native to FF. :dgrin: :D :) (boy, i teach them how to tease and get nothing back but teases ;) )

  • The FF HDR environs in surround sound.
... out my hair " ----Yeah, it ain't fast, and it takes exponentially (and apparently not just proportionally so ha-ha) longer to import larger sized files. Hopefully FF will spend a few hours or a day or whatever when recoding for V2, and get the HDRI importing to use multiple cores. It seems like a minor thing, but try Genetica 3 and see how freakin' fast theirs works (and none of G3 even uses multiple cores yet). jffe

  • JPG to EXR library
Author: jffe. I'm not having any luck getting a real metallic *shine* happening with any of the .jpg images I am importing to use for the HDRI lighting. They have more than enough white area that they should get that same shine that the sunlight from the built-in light source images produces, but they simply do not. What could be causing that ? jffe

Maybe it can't be entirely fixed up to standard HDRI level, but it must be able to be faked up 1/3 or 1/2 eh. :D jffe

... there's nothing in what i said that limits the size of the imported, stored, or library image. in actual fact, there's no real reason an entire library of files couldnt be done for FF. i could easily see a 'presets library', 'image library' (for importing into a given filter), 'environments (hdri, exr and so on) library' and so on, all being put in a central repository on the FF servers the same way the filters are. and that last one could really be a boon. i've been experimenting with converting .jpg's to .exr's and importing them for ...

Author: ssamm. Because of this thread, I made my first .ffenv file (i.e. I used "Import HDRI" for the first time). This is pretty cool, but it does take a lot of computer processing time to make. • Lab Enhance by ronviers
Author: ronviers. "Kraellin wrote: 2 +/- ev level bracketing looks good" It's still a bit disappointing. Canon could have easily made it a six image bracket instead of two. They know very well what they are doing, they want to make the serious HDRI shooter pay for the pro model - an extra $5000. "Kraellin wrote: no manual zoom" I have not used a non-manual zoom but it seems like the most important thing about an electronic zoom would be the response of the control - a slider would be nice. But I agree, if it does not behave precisely it would be worse than useless.

Author: jffe. I have another question about HDRI lighting. I have imported a couple of small (200 X 400 pixel I believe) .exr lighting files, and used them in FF. The sharper the surface spikes, the larger area of the sphere is used, getting close to 100% as canyon walls become vertical (you won't see them when they get 100% vertical though). P.S. HDRI import can be made faster if you're okay with the "reflection blur" giving more or less correct results only near min and max values.
