  • Filter Forge returns Serial Number invalid
... apps on a Mac.....then install the Windows version of FF on it.....since the Mac version obviously has some "bugs" that still need to be worked out of it.....and the Windows version of FF is now very stable since they just remedied the "resource leak" problem in it......

  • FF GrandMaster :)
... continued Forum participation.....so you may be right.....I may be considered a "thorn in FF's side" with all my repetitive "persistance" on several issues here.....okay, okay, I beat many issues to a pulp.....especially the "resource leak".....but hey, it might have got fixed just to shut me up and stop me from ranting about it, eh??? ;) :D LOL.....

  • CorvusCroax's Junkyard
Author: StevieJ. "CorvusCroax wrote: FF crashed on me and killed the filter" 0-byted the filter, eh??? Bummer.....that's from the FF "Bastard Bug" problem (aka - never-ending resource leak issue). You can tell when it's coming by the cursor and commands starting to hang up and not being immediately responsive. I don't take any chances with it anymore.....do frequent shutdowns and restarts of FF.....and religeously save a copy of ...

  • Competetion
Author: Vladimir Golovin. "StevieJ wrote: but I'm hoping that FF's effort priorities currently lie with overhauling the code to do away with that #$@%&$#@! resource leak problem, Mac version, and PC V2" Yes, your hope is perfectly justified ;) As for the idea itself, I definitely like the idea. I even considered making contests (with topics given by FF) the only channel of submitting filters into the library....

  • Randomizer Lock
... all relative components (making many filter constructions so much easier without work-arounds).....and full parameter control over HDRIs (no bad areas under high randomization)..... Okay, Okay.....I'll just be thankful that the "resource leak" seams to be remedied..... ;) :D ......

  • Top 5 "Fixes"......
Author: Kraellin. i get a problem with the leak about once or twice a day, sometimes even when i first boot FF up, but that's normally if my resources are already somewhat low in windows (like having run another heavy app sometime before FF). so, yes, it is noticable and somewhat annoying. but, if you're aware it exists and know the signs of an impending crash (the sticky, jerky mouse cursor),...

  • Laptop Gurus???
Author: StevieJ. It works.....the ironic thing is that I was doing it in an effort to try and counter the FF "resource leak" problem..... ;) :) If you have 2 gigs of RAM, make your swap file 6 gigs.....but first make sure it's not fragmented when you create it. Here's some notes on how to do it..... Virtual Memory/Swap File Setup: -Right click "My ...

  • PicLens support for the whole FF site!
Author: StevieJ. Well, from what I gathered from Vlad, they still can't figure out what is causing the "Resource Leak" problem.....and like you said, they did mention that they are going to try new code to remedy it..... Vlad also mentioned that the PC and Mac versions will share most of the platform base code.....so I would think that they would have it ...

  • Filter Forge V. 2
Author: jffe. "Redcap wrote: What say you?" ----FF needs fixin', and they aren't gonna get that new code to fix the resource leak til V2 they said no ? Let alone add any new features. That said, of course there's lots left to be done with V1. We're all just used to (ie = spoiled with) nearly constant updates with software these days, at least with shareware/nonboxed apps. I'd ...

  • Top 5 "Fixes"......
... getting kinda ridiculous. I've never had any program on my machine, freeware or otherwise, that even comes close to instability of this program...... " That's strange, because FF is very stable on my two machines, and I haven't experienced the resource leak in months. But then again, I don't leave FF sitting in the background for hours when I don't need it. So, while I agree that there are fixes that need to be done, I'm also convinced that constantly "rubbing it in" ain't too helpful either....

  • xp "sleep mode" + filter editor = lost work (deletes filters!)
Author: ssamm. rgoer, FF has an unfortunate "Resource Leak" bug/problem. (It's been often mentioned in this forum.) Until it gets fixed, some rules of thumb (that I use) are: 1. Continually back up filters you're working on. (E.g. I'll often "save as" one filter under two different names....

  • Insufficient System Resources
... specify the temporary location (filters and settings are stored in your profile, but they take only several megabytes of disk space, so this isn't a problem). Unfortunately, the bug you encounter has nothing to do with free disk space -- it's a major resource leak that we're exploiting right now. Looks like it occurs after a long sessions with Filter Forge, but we currently don't know exact reasons. Nevertheless, we'll fix it sooner or later ;)

  • Carl's Corner :)
Author: Carl. "Crapadilla wrote: many of the ongoing issues (availability of a mac version, the resource leak, EULA) will dissolve. " FF has been very generous with there reward system, it's hard not to want there sucess and growth and for themselves to be rewarded for their hard work, I personally was always happy that people were enhancing there ...

  • Top 5 "Fixes"......
Author: onyXMaster. I know it's of no excuse, but I would like to note that the resource leak is in the code of one of our third-party libraries. Unfortunately, it's a commercial product (hence no source code for us to fix) that has very poor support (new versions go out like ... once a year, having the same bugs). You might ask -- why we ...

  • Slider limits
Author: Kraellin. weird bugs showing up where you had none before is often the resource bug manifesting itself in odd ways. this happens when you've had FF open for a long while and been using a lot of memory.... ... start getting oddball errors. i've never had the one you got, but i've had others that never show up again. it's just the memory leak bug manifesting itself by not finding the things it needs because it's eaten all the memory. ok, i shld also point out,...

  • V1 Fixed Before Mac
Author: StevieJ. I would like to see an end to this ongoing resource leak/bug problem before anymore effort is put into the Mac version. Personally, I don't know how FF can move on to the Mac version without fixing this major problem first..... :| No offense to Vlad or any of the FF team who have put alot of hard ...

  • Competetion
... increase traffic and sales of both..... :| I like the idea of competitions and FF using then to get what they want for the library.....but I'm hoping that FF's effort priorities currently lie with overhauling the code to do away with that #$@%&$#@! resource leak problem, Mac version, and PC V2 to counter Genetica 3.0.....

  • Odd behaviour with Filter Updates
Author: StevieJ. Way before V1.011.....since I first got the program.....including the same problem that Dilla just experienced..... I've always considered it to be part of the resource leak because the timing is always the same with the program starting to seize up.....which forces me to shut down, clean my computer, and restart in order to get the program back to working without any problems.....and occurs on a regular basis from 30 ...

  • Event Handle
... already, and hit 'end process' (or end task). that shld clear it. then, it's recommended that you reboot your machine. your resources will be low and a reboot shld restore everything. you're still going to lose that one filter as being corrupted. ... ... this hasnt happened AT ALL on my machine, where i was getting it regularly before. so, this all points to a very large memory leak within windows xp itself, and not filter forge. filter forge is just the victim here and not the problem itself.

  • Please fix the resource leak bug!
Author: Kraellin. i had another crash last night and lost another filter. i was mostly able to reconstruct it again, but this is getting quite annoying! this time i had no warning, no sticky mouse cursor or lags; it simply crashed when i tried to save. i got the 'cant create event' error message and could save after that. oddly, it wasnt hung up/stuck. i could move around and such and look at everything. i could even copy the filter into the clipboard, but as soon as i tried to save again, FF just...
