... With my filters you actually have to play with the settings. " So users have no choice but to have some creative input on yours, eh??? ;) :D "Kraellin wrote: you could add 2000 presets to your filter submission and they would all be copyrighted by the author " That's exactly what the new EULA will do.....all straight results produced by a texture will be copyrighted property of the author whether they are a preset or not.....so any randomized or manual result. Personally, ...

... my legitimate claims. I actually hold a patent on the concept of a pinch roller such as is used to move any sheet through a machine. I wonder what all the manufacturers of business machines and printing presses would have to say about that. With copyrights, the standard is that you have to be able to prove it was your creation ... period. It is rare to register a copyright ... it is normal to publicly proclaim a copyright. This comes up all the time with sign artists. My point is that these ...

Author: Nikki. "Not so odd. Go to a hardware store or to a fabric store, and look at the wallpapers or textiles. You'll see copyright holder names on the back or some other spot of walpaper pattern books. On textiles, you'll see the same along one edge of the fabric. Same with scrapbooking paper, the copyright holder is mentioned. Christmas wrapping paper too. If someone ...

... just the presets.....it's any first-hand result from a texture filter without tiling onto something or using it in some creative way..... For example.....users can't resell a photo filter preset with the lifesaver in it because the lifesaver is a copyrighted image.....so they have to run some other external imgage through it. The same applies to your texture filters......any straight result from it is your copyrighted property like the lifesaver image.....until it is used in some creative way....

... know that the various Open Source licences also allows bundling with other types of licence? For example, all code that I write on Open Source projects, I always use open source licences. But all graphics and images I design and make are under personal copyright, which gives me the freedom to decide how those images will be used, both commercially and non-commercially. In practise, pretty easy decision on the commercial side - no. Any graphics I make for any Open Source project will not get permission ...

  • Copyright clarification please.
Author: paulcopeland. G'day from Ausralia. I did have a search for copyright and saw some links which I read, but would like full clarification please. If I use one of the filters, twiddle a little bit with the setting, and create an image from the output and sell the image printed on a tee shirt for example, is that ...

  • Fixed image component
Author: Rachel Duim. Good points all around. I agree, more preview images. Just for fun, I've attached a test image in the new filter using a branch brush. Yeah, copyright is always a problem. When I release the new filter with a link to the brush files I created in Photoshop (mostly 200x200), I will post a copyright/use notice on the files for free use by anyone for any purpose. And yes I did consider making ...

... downloaded my wall section. The texture itself could easily be pulled out of the appropriate place in the file structure--it's a jpg (of course, taking the texture that way violates another potential right as well" That wouldn't negate the original copyright [ if it broke the guide lines of Eula ], it wouldn't matter how they got the texture it is still copyrighted against reselling as is.

Author: StevieJ. "ahimsa wrote: I give my presets away for free" I thought you needed the program to create textures for fabric to make money??? • "All your filter are belong to someone else!"
Author: Conniekat8. It's not so much about suing and going after all offenders, especially those whom will intentionally steal. But, there's plenty of people whom are concerned about actually following the copyrights, EULA's etc. For example, on renderosity.com I almost purchased several of the texture packs. They sat on my wishlist for some time. It's only after I discovered Filter Forge that I realized where the filters came from. I'd rather give the ...

... my nose into this highly contentious issue), so please forgive me if this is an obvious question: Why doesn't Filter Forge Inc compile renderings of all the presets and sell them individually, themselves? A) This counts as 'publication'. (Key copyright concept establishing authorship.) Guys like TheSupe87 may still try to render and sell presets, but you have much more of a leg to stand on if they are selling something otherwise identical to what you have already been selling. B) You can't ...

Author: StevieJ. I hate to tell ya that I told you so..... :D .....but I warned that this "stagnation" would happen if the EULA was not changed to create "tangible" author copyright protection on texture filters.....and used towards creating further incentives/reward levels to keep skilled authors actively submitting quality filters here.
