The Backup and Restore tool allows you to back up installed filters, presets, favorites and other settings to a single archive file, to be restored later.
Select Tools > Backup Filters and Settings to create a new backup or Tools > Restore Filters and Settings to restore an existing backup.
You can use the Backup and Restore tool to transfer filters, favorites, and settings to another computer or a newer Filter Forge version. You can create a backup on Windows and restore it on a Mac, and vica versa.
What is included in the backup
- Program settings
- User presets, environments, component defaults
- Favorites
- Library filters
- Snippets
In other words, everything inside the %APPDATA%\Filter Forge\ folder on Windows~/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge/ on macOS. except the My Filters folder.
If you have user-made filters that were not downloaded from the online Filter Library, you need to back up them manually.
Warning: filter sets cannot be merged
When you restore a backup, all existing filters and settings will be replaced with those from the backup file. There is no way to merge two sets of filters. If you have to reinstall Filter Forge from scratch we recommend you restore your backup before loading any filters from the website.
