With support from Intel Corporation, Filter Forge, Inc. would like to invite you to participate in a performance test of the latest Intel CPUs – Core i7 or Xeon 3500/5500 with the "Nehalem" architecture – compared to prior quad-core platforms. As you know, Filter Forge is built to fully utilize multi-core architectures, but Core i7 and Xeon 3500/5500 add Hyper-Threading to each physical core, which doubles the number of logical cores and threads available to multi-threaded applications. If you have a Nehalem-based computer and another computer with a quad-core processor of an earlier generation, you are welcome to participate! The first user who submits comprehensive comparative data will receive a 1 year license for their choice of one of the following:

  1. Intel® VTune™ Performance Analyzer (a $699 value), or
  2. Intel® C++ Compiler Professional Edition (a $599 value), or
  3. Intel® Thread Checker (a $999 value.)

To participate, please take the following steps:

  1. Install Filter Forge (a trial or the Professional edition) on a computer with a Core i7, Core i7 Extreme, Xeon 3500 or Xeon 5500 processor.
  2. In Filter Forge, go to Tools > Options > Rendering, and enable 'Use all available CPUs/cores' and 'Show elapsed rendering time' options.
  3. Select any 7 different filters from the ones that are shipped with Filter Forge.
  4. Render each of these filters with default settings in 3000x3000 resolution. Record the elapsed time.
  5. Close and re-open Filter Forge. Repeat the rendering, and record the elapsed time again.
  6. Repeat the above steps on the older quad-core computer.
  7. Submit the names of the filters you used and the performance results via http://www.filterforge.com/contact/. Please include full technical specifications of both machines used for testing, including processor model and speed, amount/type/speed of RAM, and hard drive details.

By submitting the results you agree that they may be used by Filter Forge, Inc. and/or Intel Corporation without further notification. If you have any questions or comments, please contact us via http://www.filterforge.com/contact/.
