Here's what I have so far from combining the bendy pipes from my filter with the texturing from Corvus' filter. I had to drop the differences in thickness thing as it didn't fit well with the curves, maybe I'll figure a way to bring it back..

I had a thinking about pipes and edges. I was pondering if the 'follow an edge' thread might contain the secret to adding joints, clipies and other doodads onto curvey pipes.

Here's another one.

Slightly tweaked it, got 2 colours on the pipes now, and tried adding the little clippy bits with a bomber trick but didn't work great,

Just got fat/thin joints working for curvey pipes. Also trying a layout with all pipes leading to the centre.

I just realised I can use the method for fat/thin pipe sections to do the little clippy to the wall bits instead.

Starting to get pretty close to the piping in the original image now...

nice and well done.

One possible suggestion, could be possible to have chrome pipes and be able to change the color and have chrome colored pipes as an option too ?

Thanks and great work you are doing, like it much

Best one so far!

I'm planning on having independent shiny/metalic controls for each of the 2 sets of pipes, so you could have one as shiny metal pipes and the other as dull non-metallic like in the original image.

Ok, I think I nailed it...

Just gotta tweak a few widgets, add some blibles with a bomber and I'll upload it.

Well, I've got it pretty well sorted now. Added blips and made it a bit more organised, the only thing I need to do is make it a bit faster.

The couple at the top, I used the end bit from Corvus's filter to do the colours and the texture on the pipes, but I couldn't figure out how to make it adjustable, as in let you set the pipe colours etc, so I made my own bit, which isn't as fast.

I just tested my filter with the colour bit swapped out for the colour bit from corvus's filter good pipes filter, and it rendered in about 6 mins with my parts, and in about 7 mins with corvus's parts, so seems it's not the colour bit after all, but the curvey pipe bit, which is always going to be slower because of the blurs used and that each set of pipes is processed separately.

Doing it with ambient occlusion off only takes about 4 minutes, but doesn't look as lush as with it on... as you can see here..

However, tweaking the non-ambiant occlusion one in photoshop with just brightness and contrast makes it look just as cool....

Here's the filter as it is. I think it's pretty much ready to submit, just need to make some pretty presets, but if anyone has any more ideas to improve it just let me know..

Then why not just add a brightness and contrast component at the end of the filter?

Other than that, looks totally awsome! smile:)

Ahh, but in photoshop you're tweaking the brightness and contrast after the surface effect has been applied, whereas in the filter you can only tweak it before the surface effect.

I see your point smile:)

I'm wondering... How do you do the AO inside the filter? Can you post the AO version too so I can try and disect it, to see the difference?
Thanks!

I just mean with the ambient occlusion in the lighting tab on or off. I always test filters with it on and off, cos some filters don't need it to look cool, and some really do need it to be on.

Just added a blobby-pipe option, so now it can do electrical conduit look or an oil refinery look.

beautiful and very well done, congratulations

Just one suggestion, Why do not allow to have your OWN pipe textures by loading them through the color control and so you would have a whole lot of possible texturing combinations for the pipes instead only the ones seen here and just changing the colors?

And you do not have to change NOTHING in the filter as it is, just change the "color controls" from "not allowed" to "allowed" so you can decide to use colors or images for the pipes texturing.

Yes, I think I'll set all the colour controls to allow images, I hadn't considered that before.

Since you talked about oil refinaries, why not add an option to make the the round doohickies and the sqare doodads become valves and levers?

I've been pondering making more interesting looking blibbles, might add the option later, as it will probably need a lot of putting together polygons and other widgets. There's so many things they could be. Tap valves, lever valves, gauges, expansion chambers,

Well, I've had a go at the filter , and cut down the components a lot, managed to get it rendering about half the time and still pretty nice looking. However interesting blibbles are off the menu, i've reduced it to just boxes for more speed.

I decided to submit it to the library, as it's about as fast as it's getting I think.

This is very good news if it will look nearly the same as before as half the time is a lot of saving. Well done and nice examples.
