Hey guys and gals I just purchased this fine software after using it for about there days and it totally knocked my sock off with its amazing power and control over something that I once hated doing now has a whole new spin on it. Anyways I was just wondering where to start off I have been browsing the forums for about 20 minutes or so and I was just not finding what I was looking for or I was looking in the wrong spot. As I am totally new to this I wanted to know where a good jump off points so that I can get started on making new filters. Any links to any sites or post that explain the basic way would make a texture and then form there I can get better and better but right now I can only get it to display a read !. Yes, yes I know I am suck a nwb! Anyways thanks for the any and all help it will be much appreciated.

Well, if you have the full version, you can just open filters up and see how they are made, and learn kind of by reverse engineering them. Or you can just start randomly plugging things together, like some of us have ha-ha. I think there's some good info in the FF wiki here on the site, and CF&M has done one or two video tutorials (links to those in a thread about them in the forums here). Perhaps some other folks can stop by and give you better advice, but for a Sunday hey, at least I said something.

Definitely, and also check out the *optimizing filters for speed* thread, while you may only be a beginner, it is chock full of some really useful information, that you might as well incorporate as soon as possible. And by the way, welcome to FF, and feel free to post, ask questions, and submit filters, we're still a growing community here.

I started by finding filters I liked, opened them up and started swapping things around in them till I figured out what each part does.
But in the course of switching things around, I quite often came up with interesting new filters. Rawn |

This works in any edition - even in the Basic edition (it can open and view filters but can't save them). |

welcome to FF, billyclint.
you might also check out the wiki pages. i dont remember where the link(s) is, but i'm sure someone will post it. the forums are a great source of info also, but it's scattered all over. and you can always ask questions (though, do try to a search in the forums first). If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Just one suggestion, download some snippet filters. These are designed to teach you how to do certain things, so they are generally small, clean, and easy to understand.
