Well I finally got a copy of FilterForge -years after I tried the demo. I jumped in with an idea that's been on my mind for some time as I enjoy creating Photoshop brushes. It's way too heavy -and turns out good brushes mostly by accident right now- but wanted to get myself started.

I have just started reading the Wiki articles on optimizing so will revisit that.

I have a fair idea of what I want to get out of this and what makes a good texture brush but have to figure out how to do it all in FF. I may pester you with some questions soon - tried to put them in words here and decided I had better make some images to illustrate.

This is a great idea! smile:D
I am fairly certain I would shoot myself in the face with a volcano if I couldn't do art.

Thanks. Would love to see some of the heavy hitters here try their hands at 'brush generators.'

That one is nice - and very nicely organized. Plenty of ideas there for me to learn from. Thanks again for mentioning it.

I never thought of using FF to make brushes before, this looks like it will make some good ones, I can't wait to try it.

Well I hadn't played with FF in a while and so downloaded 3.0 demo and updated the filter a bit. I didn't realize it would only take the first 8 presets so all the other variations got cut off. I've made a few more tweaks and will probably upload another version in the next couple days. Let me know what you think if you try it.

I made a brush pack here but I layered a few of the rendered results to make the brushes more complex.

You can see some sample brush strokes using these brushes here.
