I have a couple of work-in-progress filters that do other interesting eyes, including a funny one called "Factory Reject Lizard Eyes." I'll probably be releasing them when I feel satisfied with them.

Very realistic...
you should make the fade from muscle to black curved instead of linear though.
And if you fix the size/pixels breakup, you should get an EP.

Sjeti, that is an excellent point. I will fix that up!

If I understand your meaning, I realized there was potentially a problem with sizing when I was in the car the other day. I was a total lunkhead for forgetting to test that out.

I couldn't help myself: I squashed yours an mine together. It is now seamless. I've also made the dilation so that it will offset the muscles (rather than just mask them).
It now does some kind of animal eye as well. I'm still trying to figure out how to manipulate a curve to get snake eyes though.

Ooh, I thought about that a couple of times while I was working on it, but never got around to getting it in there. Nice!

I've got plenty of photo reference for human eyes from a project I was working on a year ago, but I don't have any good animal stuff. Those animal eyes are great!

I've been intending to do a second more realistic (but potentially slower) shader that has finer details, like the rough ridge you see around the pupil in your human eye photo. However, if I did that, I'd probably make it a surface shader, so I could make a nice normal map for the iris. It would be a really nice time-saver when doing textures for 3D models.

Looking at all those eyes it seems quite impossible to make one universal eye.

I've been having a go at that ridge as well, but I'm not quite there yet (lots of confusing curves).
Also I've done away with the rim colors since are shadows. And before the shadow is cast the light is bent by the lens so it's not even.
And I've given the muscle on the pupil edge some more depth by varying the offset.

I'll post it again somewhere tonight.
