I've taken the work from Double Radial Van Gogh and applied it to contours (edges) for the brush strokes. The brush engine included in the filter also has a companion snippet filter for building brushes on the side (Brush Engine), so you can see the brush shapes up close, then import them into DRVG or BEVG. Here's a snap shot of BEVG in use with the standard built in brush.

Very nice and with many options. The results look like real paintings.

Here's an example using 2 brushes: a distorted branch brush and the internal distorted elliptical brush. Used in conjunction with the Surface Texture Engine.

This is a great looking filter, producing very painterly images in the style of Van Gogh. I believe you developed this originally on a Mac? I am using Win 7 pro 64bit and I have a 6 core AMD cpu and 8Gb ram yet my first image with has filter has taken perhaps 20 minutes. Is this to be expected? I might add that I have just purchased FF4 Pro, which I've assumed from the sales details uses all the cores to speed up processing.
The final output is nice, by the way. It's a 3.5Mb jpeg, 2736 x 3648 px , so large-ish. although I'm looking to do some A3 prints eventually. Dave Sandilands |

Thanks
The filter was inspired in part by Corel Painter and XaOS Tools Paint Alchemy (sadly defunct). Here's a sample for fun: Orange Air. Rickster ![]() Math meets art meets psychedelia. |

The more I play with this filter the more I like it. I have been using some of my own PNG files as brushes and it makes fantastic textures and patterns. Great filter.

Thanks
I'm glad people are finding it useful. It is a bit complex. I really wrote it for myself originally, the features just kept getting added. I agree, you have to play with it a lot to see the wild variations. I was surprised at using "junk" shapes for brushes and getting good results! I am working on a users manual, it will be a large set of examples & images to get you started. May take a while...

This is a super cool filter Rick. Thanks much for it. Great work. I am also a fan of Paint Alchemy and actually tried to create a similar filter myself. Never figured out how to properly illustrate how to use external images as brushes. Your brush engine is a very elegant work around. Thanks again ........ This should be a featured filter ....

OH!!! WOW!! I did not know and have not seen that in this filter you could be able to use external brushes and this has been done thinking of this. This seems interesting and will try it Thanks very much for telling it in my other thread I have found a way to use Photoshop Brushes inside FF to create things |
