I love the effect of this filter, but on three of my computers (each with four gigs, quad core, all cores enabled) it hasn't finished rendering a 3600 by 4500 RGB file in 36 hours.
The author kindly wrote me, saying that it renders quickly for her. What do you suppose is going on? |

----Granted that's a decent sized render, it shouldn't take more than about 10 mins on your machine. Are you running it in stand-alone mode, or inside Photoshop or PSP ? You might try both ways, surely one will do the render in 'normal' time. jffe Filter Forger |

I tried running it both inside Photoshop CS4 and outside, running unescorted, so to speak. The results were the same.

Mac version ? Could be a *bug* then maybe, cause that long of a render time sounds ridiculous for anything less than a P2 with 128megs of pc100 ram ha-ha.

It's a very strangely created filter which makes me question whether there was a whole lot of intent regarding the construction. I know the attached filter has weird controls but I believe it should be significantly faster.
There were two blurs set at 100% in the filter... for no visible reason. This would slow things down a lot when you start rendering at higher values. Give the attached filter a try and see if it alleviates the problem, if it's faster you might want to have the author take another look at the guts of the original. Deco Warp.ffxml |

Thank you all for your thoughts and comments. KG's modified version works very quickly on my machines and I'm grateful for it.
You can see one of my pictures made using Filter Forge filters below and more are at at http://tomgore.ca especially in the recent section and others at http://www.flickr.com/photos/tomgore/ (though you'll need to logon on and set your safety setting to include everything. regards Tom |

Artsy,
I totally agree, sometimes playing and fiddling is a great way to learn things and there's nothing wrong with that. If you're still interested in getting to know filterforge more I'd highly recommend taking a look at the wiki: http://www.filterforge.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page there's a lot of great info that helped me out a lot when starting out. One of the things I learned in the wiki is that blurs should be avoided whenever possible, there are two unnecessary blurs in your filter which is why it renders fairly quickly on smaller images (because it doesn't significantly slow things down at that size) but takes prohibitively long for larger ones. I would recommend that you take a gander at the wiki and re-submit this filter with some of the modifications I made in the attached. This way you can get whatever usage Tom (and others) might award from using your filter and not the attached one. Good luck and stick with it! |
