Thanks. More testing of the wallpaper groups. Today, Wallpaper Group 3 pm. Note that this filter is only symetical along the edges in 1 direction / axis. See if you can find the split line.

Here is something you have not seen before in the Wallpaper Groups, no edge symmetry at all! Just 180 degree rotations. Here is a test of Wallpaper Group 2 p2 oblique seed. Still a long way to go on this filter, only finished with 2 of 5 seed shapes.

-------------------------------

I think the split line is at the blue V in the middle of the "eye/peacock feather" -- then it is mirrored, then repeated???? Am I right? That would make four repeats if you count the mirrors, two if you don't count 'em.

I have in storage a book called Designing Tessellations by Jinny Beyer. I need to dig it out when I can and study it some more.

Split line: running horizontally directly across the middle, just above the red features in the middle.

That's the beauty of being able to see the "seed shape" first. You can add "pseudo" symmetry by placing objects at a middle of an edge, or in the corners of the seed shape.

Eventually (not enough free time right now) I am going to create a set of graphics for the Wallpaper Groups with solid graphic shapes and lines that will "align" at mid-points & corners in the seed shape for the Wallpapers that don't have edge symmetry. If that makes any sense.

Tessellations for quilters. Very cool.

I didn't see it! (There is a book of William Morris' wallpaper, carpet, etc. designs, and trying to find the repeat can be tricky with his designs, too.)

Well, your project is great and I will enjoy the future filter releases.

I have a program -- which doesn't seem to be available for sale right now -- called Seamless Studio, that would let you layer images and shapes and colors and it would automatically tile them into a repetitive background (I only used it for a couple of projects; I found it tricky to import in pictures, and the version I had wouldn't export TIFs.)

A breakthrough for the Wallpaper Groups, the first test of a hexagonal tile, using a new technique: the result is actually a rectangular tile, but the result is stretched in the Y (vertical) direction to accommodate square tiling. Here is a 8192x8192 test of Wallpaper Group 13 p3.

Good idea stretching the hexagons/triangles to fit rectangular tiling. Pretty soon you'll have done all 17 I bet (well, group 1 is trivial, you just turn on "seamless tiling" smile;) ). Are there any groups that are already possible with just the kaleidoscope component?

Thanks smile8)

I haven't evaluated the kaleidoscope component, other than trying to figure out how to show the seed shape and not getting anywhere.

And yes, I am pretty sure I'll get all 17 done, once I figured out how to tile the hexagons it looks like clear sailing smile:bunny: I have 5 wallpapers in test, with 4 more to write.

Oh, and here's a test of Wallpaper Group 14 p3m1.

Oh, now I have to perform some ritual, is that it smile:bunny: I am burned out on FF coding. Also, I am letting the dust settle between real bugs and "features" in the new FF 5. So far none of the UI bugs I've submitted have been fixed, the missing vertical scroll bar on filters on the Mac is my pet peeve smile:dgrin:

And I don't have a clue about how the bomber+ works. But I will soon enough. I just have got to get these wallpapers out of the soles of my shoes smile;)

It must have been a hard and tiresome work making all the wallpapers groups, but I think that surely the result shines and is awesome, very helpful and useful, and want to thank you very much for the great work you have done and is very worthy all the effort.
