I have just seen in the Jhon Nack Blog this news

Black Ink, a new generative-art tool

Quote
The new drawing app Black Ink features a node-based visual editor for creating brushes, letting you “Tweak, combine, create new tools and discover the power of generative art!”

And when looking at the official website for this software, it really seems to be stunning and amazing of what can be done, and wanted to put it here because it seems that is a total new way of creative and artistic software that does not follow or use any of the previous artistic software techniques or tools and are more advanced, and overall is very fast at whatever resolution thanks to a good GPU optimization.

Please see the image examples shown on the link above to be amazed with what would be possible

VERY LOW PRICE PROMOTION WHILE IN BETA

AND what I like much also is that this new generation technology software will NOT cost you an arm and a leg as others ones available already

There is an Beta version discount where it only costs 35€ (around 45$) and you will get free the final version whatever the final price will be

Bad news for Mac Users - Is only For Windows

But you are lucky that you can use very easily and emulator for using Windows software, and have commercial and free software already available for you, and there is NONE commercial or easy available for Windows to emulate MacOS.

This tool does not have anything similar to Filter Forge although both may be node based, as they very different market, BUT I think that this software could benefit fr om having both software, and using the Black Ink to generate the source and then use Filter Forge to modify it and keep creating more things that maybe are not possible in any other software than filter forge.

[Removed original content] I should seriously quit saying stuff.

Black Ink is definitely a tool of interest. On the side with stuff like this, there are tons of nice alternatives everywhere on the market. Most of them are obscured by the mainstream market interest for "gestural natural mediums".

By the way, I hardly recommend using GPU-based apps on emulation. Bootcamp will allow for proper support for products as such.

I have tried it and is really different to others software I have seen and the way it works, and how you can configure things, and how you paint, and the brushes are also better to others ones.

The Node based editor is clearly VERY different fr om filter forge, there are NO links between components, they are all glued together, and there is about 8 result components wh ere the components are attached and they work all together for the final result, and the node components itself are also very different from the ones available in FF.

What is very good that you have layers, and also can paint live with different pressure and different blend modes and modify the brushes in many ways that is not possible in others softwares I have seen.

Just had a quick test, so will have to see more.

Yes, I think so, and it seems to be well done and filling a place that is not yet done with other similar software.

If there are "tons" of nice alternatives to this, could you please be so kind to name a few of them (or maybe you can send them by private FF message) as I do not know any alternative to this kind of software, unless all of them are only available for MacOS and not for Windows.

I think this is much more than it seems and it has a much greater potential, and you can do many possible things because you can build your own brushes in many possible ways and customize it with the many available node components.

What I have discovered now is that this are NOT at all traditional brushes as it happens with Corel Painter, Photoshop, or any other digital painting software, as it is much more than that, and you can even use image based sources to pick up the colors and shapes and paint with that and build your brush with this. This can be seen how is done in this video shown here below

BlackInk - Pissenlit - Live Capture Using Brush with source image

Also another example that they are not traditional brushes is the images shown here

Bleank´s Blog - Black Ink New Rendering engine

NOT FIXED TO THE CANVAS SIZE FOR PAINTING

Also something that is seen in the above video and is curious, useful and not available in any other software I have seen, is that the available workspace, is like if you are having a virtual table where the canvas is put and then you can paint all over the table without any care, and only the parts that fall inside the canvas will be kept. All the other software I know only allows you to paint and works ONLY inside the limits of the canvas, and not outside of it.

STEAM GREEN HIGHLIGHTED

Well, I am still learning how to use it, as it is not the same as other software, and although is intuitive, you must learn the basics behind this new way of doing things. I will put an example when I have something I have done.

GOOD AND BAD NEWS FOR MAC USERS

Before I have only read the many features available (go at the end of the page and there are some text with a little triangle at the left, click on it to open) but have not read the FAQ tab.

And I have seen this

Quote
For the moment Black Ink is only available for Windows systems (XP/Vista/7/smile8). A Mac version will follow in the future

This is the good news, and the bad news is that there is no date for this and maybe it will take some time until this could be available for Mac, and the second bad news, may be that if you do not buy it now, you could pay much more if you have to wait until the final release of the windows version to be able to test it.

I mean I don't plan on hitching it but I would be happy to see a version for all systems really. Like all artsy software it'd be nice to have it on all platforms so I can hop around from one system to another without changing software to do something different.

It's basically like how StudioArtist became also for Windows. It just means I have a chance to own two copies, use two different systems and get the same result.

SpaceRay, I don't think anything is "Bad news" at all. I just think your wording isn't appropriating the circumstances of releasing a software for a particular system.

Good and thanks for telling it. I have not bought it yet as it costs 60$ and I am unemployed, also did not download the free trial, so I think now that it has been updated will do it.
