Hi, I've modelled a re-creation of Morghul Keep from Lord of the Rings for use with the game Doom3.

Can you give me some pointers on how to create the weathered concrete look? Image editing is not my forte.

I'm sure there is a few already created by you guy that would be good but I only use the internet from the library so I can't download filters.

So if you've done something that I could use could you email me or something.

It might help if you post some weathered look that you are going for...There are some looks in the library...You could even point to one of those and say something like this.....

Name calling does not help either smile:|
Sometimes it takes a little bit for a post to get answered since its not really a real heavy active fourm like others.. smile:)

I am just an "ignorant cretin" like he said, and didn't know how to make weathered stone. I was eagerly awaiting a response as well smile;)

All I know is you give the filter to Crapadilla and he will throw some perlin noise and tone curves and voila, you will not only have weathered stone you will have Morgul Keep.

I don't think you should leave kensaundm31. I only just noticed the thread. I would be aggravated too, sometimes my posts go unanswered, but you should not let it get you down. There are lots of nice, helpful and knowledgeable members here even though it may not seem like it right now.
I do not have an answer about concrete but maybe you could look at some of Carl's concrete filters to get some ideas.

Sorry about the rocky start,
Ron

Well, I wouldn't leave him either but I fear he has left us.

He just posted in the wrong part of the forum so nobody noticed, asked the wrong question (and didn't rtfm).

So please kensaundm31, don't leave us ignorant cretins, come back!

Heh, heh. I guess I did kinda throw my toys outta' the pram there a bit!

It's just I saw loads of people had viewed it without bothering to reply, so I thought I'd let rip.

Anyway I apologise. And that apology goes double for redcap, ronviers and Sjeti who are obviously very decent people.

I 've come up with something okay with noise and stretch but the model I've created in max deserves the best possible texture. Which I can't do at the moment. I'll get there in the end.

No problem. There are lots of emotional people on this forum. smile:)

That's understandable, many of the filter makers here work with effects not textures. Even the ones doing textures, like myself, do not have much experience in 3d. Probably most of the people that viewed the thread were just interested in finding out the answer. Besides you have to expect a lot of views with at title like Minus Morgal. This question would have been better posted in the Creating Filters section.

I will be glad when I get to texturing. I have been stuck in character setup for too long. smile:|

Good luck with your project. smile:)

Well if you have any specific problems aks em in 'Creating filters'.
I don't really know much about 3D so I can't be much help with that. But what you can do is read the Wiki, there's lot's of good stuff in there.
And just open up other peoples filters and look how they do things. Among those 4500 filters there must be some good rocky ones that you can learn from.

I work as web designer, but dabble quite heavily in 3D texturing and lighting, as a serious hobby

I'll either post some of thumbs of my concrete textures in this thread, or I will send you a personal e-mail

we'll get you sorted out one way or the other...

smile:)

[Disclaimer: I rarely look at the forums myself, because I've got so many more things in the fire. Take that into account... smile:blush: ]

But I just wanted to say that I think this is one of the nicest communities I've run across. I can understand kensaundm31's frustration at receiving no answer after four days, especially when it was obvious many people had read the post, but I was apprehensive when I read the rant. (Sorry, kensaudm31, but that was a bit of an overreaction.)

I shouldn't have worried: the FF community responded with humour, calmness, and advice. I've seen some serious disagreements here and there in some of the forums (why does it so often happen when talking of EULA? smile:p), but so far I haven't seen any actual flame wars. This really a community that cares about the program and the people. (Makes me a bit ashamed of myself, since I'm not here to help myself very often...)

Anyway, good job, all. You rock. smile:beer:
