Ideas for Filter Library

a) In the menu 'View' we have 'Hide Already Downloaded'. We would have also the option 'Hide Not Downloaded Yet.'

b) With the RMB we would select in the context menu an option 'Mark as Unwanted', than after maked as 'Unwanted' it would Hide the filter from the library. So, I would select 'Hide Already Downloaded' to get those that I have not downloaded yet without having in the list those unwanted from me messing my list. To get to see the 'Unwanted' filters back we would have in the menu 'View' the option 'Show Unwanted Filters'. So, I can use this option if one day I want to download them. Besides that, maybe with this option would get also into the 'Usage Status/Rank', So you can "control" Unwanted filters too.

c) It would be cool to open up the texture/effect from the library into the main interface. So, we would use the search and pick the filter. If we click twice on the filter we have already downloaded, It would open It into the Filter Forge.

d) (coming soon)

Yes, I like the ideas of single-click download into the main interface, and the idea of unwanted filters. Probably, we can implement the latter together with the voting system -- for example, when you vote "against" a filter, it becomes hidden for you.

We're still thinking about how to implement the community-based approval. Most likely, UsageRank will remain as a main trigger for rewards, and voting will be used for approval (a.k.a "promotion").

It's going to be hard to think about. I mean, to avoid folks 'cheating' the system or people giving worst rates to others just to raise theirs own. What does (a.k.a "promotion") means?

Ideas for Filter Library...

d) When we use search, all results show into 'Serch' folder and we don't know what category a filter belongs. It would be interesting to show the category in the 'About' info or when you click on the filter it bolds in red the category It belongs.

e) Now that Filter Library is accessible via web, we would have a checkbox on each filter or a kind of basket shop, so we would mark all we want and download them at once as we used to do in the Built-in Library browser.

f) Coming soon.

Is there currently anyway to download them to files and add them into any folder you want? Like a right click import feature, theres probably already one right? Sorry i havent tried out the latest version just yet to try this but i will soon hopefully smile:)

No, in the current version filters are downloaded into fixed categories. I agree, not very flexible, but changing this now is a huge load of work, so don't expect this to change anytime soon.

Talking about "into fixed categories"...

f) The "details:" in the Filter's page (Web Filter Library) would show what category the filter belongs(e.g. "Category: Organic").

The current design shows the category here:

Ops, that's true, my bad Vlad. I forgot that. I'm sorry about that. Ok, let's move on... smile:)

g) The Web Filter Library (WFL) would have a new tab as "Top Members Ranking", so it should list all member and # of filters sent with a link to all filter from the member. The list is ordered from high to low. Example:

CFandM (55)
Vladimir Golovin (42)
Lucato (27)
James (19)
.
.
.

Have a nice weekend.

Well, I have a better idea for the author ranking smile:D

Instead of ranking them by the sheer number of submitted filters, we could use a percentage of popular filters (or editor picks) in the entire set of filters submitted by this author. In other words, we would look at the 'quality coefficient' of an author. Therefore, authors who care about the quality should outperform authors who simply submit tons of stuff.

vlad,

i love that when you use the editor on someone else's filters, it makes a copy and puts it in 'my filters' when you save. and i can understand the reason for fixed categories on the downloaded filters. however, the biggest problem i have with all that is finding any given filter. i often have to go thru several categories to find one i remember seeing before. i often dont recall the name, dont recall the author and it's just annoying to have to search thru 1000 (and soon to be more) filters to find that one filter you remember seeing and maybe even using before.

so, i'd propose several things here: 1. add some sorting features... sort by author, sort by type, sort by preset, sort by components used (like if i know a filter has a kaleidoscope component), sort by date submitted and so on. in fact, i'd love, if in FF i had these as categories already and it simply listed duplicates of the fixed categories with a reference link to the filter in the fixed area.
2. the 'my filters' category needs to be able to be user-controlled, with an expanding file tree and sub-trees which the user can add to, delete, rename and so on. i'd prefer if the downloaded ones could have this also, but i can understand why you might not want to on that one, so ok. this would be particularly useful for placing other people's filters in when saved in the editor:

My Filters
... CFandM's filters
... Mike's filters
... Ro's filters
... older versions of filters
... commonly used filters (other's)

and so on. it might be necessary to allow that side pane to expand, however. i know space is short. so, allowing the side pane to expand would work. click a little checkbox and it would contract back again to the default size.

i think it would also work to move the whole file tree to a tab while the 'presets settings and about items were on a separate tab. click on one tab and you see the filter file tree. click on another and you'd see the individual filter presets, controls and about. you'd then have much more vertical space for each.

Yup, the list this way is much better. I agree Vlad. That way would be the default one and have an option to filter by # of filters too.

Ok in that case im thinking in the filter info/stats maybe show the default folder it's suppost to go under and that way people like me can use a computer they don't really use FF on to download the filters from the internet then simply place them in the correct folders on another computer.
